There are plenty of... People still watching the show. People still buying the single. People still waiting to buy the album. People waiting to get tickets for a live tour.
Simon Cowell is a genius at marketing a product to a mass audience.
I'm not one of the people I listed above, I hate the show... just my humble opinion.
This is true. Thankfully we live in free countries (UK, Aus, US etc...). Many people are not so lucky. One of the cornerstones of democracy is the individual's right to freedom of choice. This of course, means that people may choose to watch pop-idol & x-factor (no matter how lame it is!).
I wouldn't want to lose the freedom to listen to whatever I like. I visited friends in Iran in 2004, we played some 50 cent super loud in their house which caused a little controversy in their neighbourhood, because the regime considers that sort of stuff to be "un-Islamic" and it's therefore forbidden to play it. We also had some US-Persian exile music blaring from their car while driving around town. Also forbidden. Listening to that stuff in Iran is an open act of defiance and often lands people in jail. Needless to say i was shitting my self when we got pulled over by the cops... Turns out they were sympathetic to my friend's defiance, they just wanted him to turn it down so that they wouldn't get in trouble for not enforcing the ban on western music...
If people want to watch x-factor, I wouldn't want to take that away from them, that would be horrible. However, I still think it's rubbish. Besides, having something to rant about every now and then is healthy |

Looks like that whole RATM thing is gaining serious momentum...it was reported in the Irish Times today and there were some quotes from Cheryl,Louis and Mr Cowell sounding seriously pissed off about the whole thing.... the one thing that surprised me was a quote from Paul MaCartney supporting RATM ..maybe he realised he lost some street cred from appearing on the X factor....anyway you can read it here if anyone is interested.... one other interesting thing was RATM appeared on BBC radio 5 playing the song live and were told to "tone down" the lyrics... of course when they didn't they were faded out....WTF did the BBC think was going to happen with a band like RATM... .....

Brought the RATM single. I've read into this, & listening to band on the radio I've learned how impersonal and brilliant this all is. I read a blog how this was all bullying ect, and it kind of made think this was a bit harsh. But the band have been really nice about it all, and they raise some great points about the music business.
& they're live 'clean version' ended early on radio 5 the other day, with the singer yelling out 'FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME' asexpected.
Like he was going to do what you told him Radio 5! |

7 Oclock Radio one results.
An online source has uploaded the top 10 so far it's been spot on & it says RATM have done it.
Fingers crossed for Killing in the name. |

I hope they do it...Cowell & Co are too full of their own self importance and think they own the music business with their crap...they need a kick in the arse.... watch for the backlash in the right wing media if RATM do it.... |

I didn't buy it as I already bought the album when it first came out back in the 90's.
A better (more interesting?) campaign would have been to try and promote a new artist against Cowell's winner. They wouldn't need to do a new song... They could have covered Rage's KITNO, just as the XF winner has done a cover version. |

I don't think a new artist would have been better... A tried and tested song that says "F*#@ YOU!" loudly at the establishment and is already known and popular was more likely to succeed... After all "Killing In the Name" came in at number 2 (after "Smells Like Teen Spirit") in a recent 'Best songs of all time' poll held on Aus radio and voted for by anyone who knew and could get online...

Very good idea..... ..you could take it further and start a whole anti X-Factor competition with the competitors covering songs out of left field running side by side with the Xfactor...'working class hero' by JL springs to mind and songs of that ilk..maybe Ollie and his band could enter and cover something by Muse... throwing flatscreen tellys out the window of hotel rooms and smashing gear obligitory.... although i don't think the sound of a LCD hitting the ground would be half as much fun... ...going by Cowells track record in marketing i reckon he started the ball rolling on this last night at 7 o'clock.....but i've met slugs like him in the business over the years so if he did do it he would get someone with 'street cred' like johnny rotten to front it and he would sit in the wings and supply the finance... |

"Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" "go buy this Rage song so it will be number one instead of some douche-bag" "okay"
