Hi all

at last there is a few preamps for acoustic appearing on the horizon...the Boss AD-5,AD-3 and a L.R. Baggs Para D.I all in around 100/120...so not too bad pricewise..anyone any experience with any of the above....i know Dr Bob was impressed with the Baggs system when he heard it at a gig a while back...any other opinions....

as always...... in advance

P.S...There is also a couple of acoustic pickups going reasonable the Dean Markley trilogy...85(i know this system was big money when it came out first but opinions on it are scarce on the net and the acoustic guitar forum came up zilch....) and a fishman Neo-D for 50... any opinions on these mucho appreciated as well....

The Neo-D is a nice passive pickup.. the Trilogy I haven't heard, but it's not as popular as the Fishman.

You're right about the Baggs Para-DI. That's up there with the best little acoustic boxes. Did you look into any Fishman Aura stuff? There's also the Zoom A2 and A2.1 which have some interesting acoustic features.

Hi FRANZONI

Think long & hard about "any" LR Baggs gear.
You may regret not getting it in the future.

Take your guitar, & go to some place that sells them.
Test one out, don't be fooled by all the extra wankery
in the other Acoustic multi-effect pedals.

You already have a great collection of pedals & gear to complement it.

Every "PRO" acoustic player that visits our folk club, is using
one version or another of the LR Baggs.
Or at least a Fishman of some type.

I walked away from an LR Baggs para DI, & have regretted it ever since.
The dumb part was, that it went for under $100au, as they had no idea what it was, plus the battery was flat.

When I do an acoustic solo gig, I use a Fishman ,& I ask/tell the sound guy to leave the desk alone.
The Fishman give me a that much contol over the tone.

Sometimes I remember to take the EH-2.

PM me if your in any doubt.
Better still read the reviews for the LR Baggs gear.

I have one other suggestion, - fit a Piezo tweeter to the amp you run your acoustic into.
Connect an on off switch to the tweeter, & a small Pad (pot) to drop the level a bit, Piezo tweeters are very efficient, & you will have to drop the level a bit to match the other speaker/s.

You won't belive the difference it will make,
Unless you are running the Acoustic direct into the desk.
Oh yeah it's better to do this with an amp,
that has a sealed back on the speakers.
Or that box you fitted with the open-closed back flap.

Regards Dr. Bob

You just made my mind up for me Dr Bob...... the Baggs is a bit of a drive away, about 70/80 miles but the last time you recommended the Jap CE-2 i wasn't disappointed.... i have a soft spot for the boss stuff but i think your right,we have a pretty good desk(dynacord powermate 1600) and the acoustic gear usually D.I's straight to the desk so i can add reverb there if i want...the only problem i can see with the baggs is a lot of people say the signal from the XLR is pretty hot,but they may be using active systems in their guitars...?....i might grab this and the fishman Neo-D and see what their like.... i got a reluctant ok from Mrs F... but 150 for both isn't bad and i haven't even used the Franzoni charm yet......i need to get someting sorted as were starting to get a lot of bookings and requests for the acoustic stuff to be introduced as part of the regular set are growing......

I use a Tech21 Sansamp Acoustic DI for ALL my acoustic & electric work... No amps ever needed.
Had it a few years now.

It's back on my pedalboard again

The Sansamp Acoustic DI is no longer made by Tech21, it got replaced by the Paradriver.

I've been seriously looking at a Baggs X-bridge as a replacement for my strat style Ibanez. Only problem is the six post spacing on my Ibanez is slightly tighter than that of a six post vintage strat spacing.

Maybe I'll just get one for my strat.
