I bought my RV-2 new back in late 87' for 24,800 yen which was exactly $203.27 USD. That was nearly 23 years ago, so inflation perhaps is the reason, but not sure. But then again, the one on ebay listed here is a used one from 95'. How much do these go for new now?
Here is a shot I took today of mine that I mentioned above:
Funny, notice the "Best if used by" date of Jun 1991 of the 9v battery next to the RV-2 box. Those batteries I purchased for my pedals never even made it out of their packaging.....
That works out at about 167 in euro....they don't come up often in local ad's here but when they do they are normally around the 125/150 bracket so...i agree with Laurie it's a crazy price but people in Ireland are still looking for over 100 for a DD-3 secondhand......especially as you can pickup a Quadraverb etc for around the same money or less..i was offered the original Quad a while back for 80....
A lot has to do with how bad and for what reason someone wants it. I've observed people buying say for instance cars at very high prices simply because they had one when they were a kid or their parents had one, etc. and it is that special to them to get the same one and are willing to pay higher prices for it.
Also if a certain product is not available in a specific country or region of the world, a potential purchaser from such an area may be willing to pay an above average or above reasonable price for the item because they can't get it anywhere else.
