Hi all, Saw the post about the guy frying the CE-2. Did the same thing. Sent it to Boss directly and they fixed it up great, it was just the diode and not very expensive. Bought a PW-2 Power Driver last night on e bay and got a fantastic deal on it. The write up in Boss Area seems favorable so thought I'd give it a go. Anyone on here use a PW-2 and what other Boss pedal could you compare it to. Thanks, Kurleee |

I'm pretty happy with the PW-2. To my ears, it's a heavier, bassier, and grittier DS-1. Has more of an overdriven sound to it too than the DS-1 I think. The distortion has a subtle almost crackly electric quality to it, which I quite like.
I like it because it means I can run my DS-1 with moderate distortion (like say 12 o'clock), and use the PW-2 for when I need something much heavier. I found it more distinctive sounding that the HM-2, which I didn't find different enough from a DS-1 to keep on my pedal board.

Hi Kurleee, Welcome to the forum from The City of Brotherly Love! I hooked up with a PW-2 and from what I understand it's sorta rare. Like the XT-2, it was only produced for a short while. As for the sound, I find it quite unique! I've heard it compared to the Big Muff sound, but it has more low end to my ears next to my Sovtek BM. A really cool pedal, and it works great with solid state amps. Looks pretty cool to boot! |

I also like the PW-2. I think it is somewhat comparable to the ML-2 but with a greater range of distortion.
Pedal Dan what is that pedal in your avatar? |

Hi Right Foot Boss, it's an interesting looking pedal, thanks for asking. It's a Spectrum! A Coron DC-846 Spectrum that is. It's a very deep sound sculpting EQ pedal with controls for resonance, band pass filter, high pass filter, and lo, mid, hi knobs. The Blue knob is level and can overdrive the frontend like an OD-1. It's the pedal of 1000 tones! It must be somewhat rare as when I did a google search the only pix I found were on DiscoFreq site. Upon closer examination, the pedal in their pix is the same one I was holding in my hands! So go to the site and see close up shots of the actual pedal in my avatar! |

Because of the mixed reviews the PW-2 received I just had to get one a few years back. You all probably know how you just want to like a product before you receive, even after you have, but at some point your self inflicted infatuation comes to its inevitable end. That was the case with my PW-2; I really tried to use it for all kinds of purposes, I so wanted to have a Boss pedal on my board that pretty much no one had ever heard of, but there was just no way I could justify keeping it, as I had (and still have) an EMMA ReezaFRATzitz too. In the end sold it as I just couldn't see myself ever finding a purpose for it. On the plus side, the PW-2 is, apart from the TW-1, is the coolest looking Boss pedal out there for sure!
I'll probably get flamed for saying this but seriously folks, I think overdrive and distortion pedals are Boss' weakest effects in general. Pretty much every other kind of effect they make is much harder on their competition than their dirt boxes.
Still, I remember loving the OD-2 I used to have, because of the Turbo ON mode. That's one pedal I'd get for sure if I should stumble upon one some fine day...

Ha...! the only boss overdrive i like as well is the OD-2.. it's the only one in the gigbag for emergencies but it's too low in volume dept for my taste and since i got my Tube overdrive and my HZD booster all my boss distortions and overdrives are redundant...i find all boss boost pedals to be a bit low outputwise compared to other brands...i think your right that boss tend to shine in with other effects..my favourites are my CE-2,TR-2 and my DD-3's...the BF-2 isn't bad either but i have no real need of a flanger anymore... |

Hey all, This is Kurleee again and thanks for all the replies to my q about the PW-2. I have since received the pedal and like it. It definately has more bottom end than the DS-1 or 2 and the overdrives. Also use an MT-2 but it can't match that crunch. Noticed several references to the ML-1 which I haven't tried yet but think I would probably stick with the MT-2 for the serious metal. The PW-2 is nice for a middle ground between the MT-2 and the DS-1 etc. Glad I bought it and will be using it. Get this thouhg, got it for $25 on E bay and the next day picked up a OD-2r for $26. A couple of rare finds that didn't break the bank. Take care all :)) |

does boss do repairs? or is it just if under warranty? if so, are the prices reasonable? because i've been lamenting my dead oc-3 for months. |
