My MT-2 with 2 x 2N700- clippers remains my favorite dirt pedal!

I can't see a situation where the MOSFETS would give an OD sound... they are excellent at a nice broad distortion.

What would you recommend then for getting a more OD type of sound out of the ODB-3. I have read some mods which replace the leds with 1n4148 diodes. But from what a read the MOSFET's are more soft-knee limiting then diodes.

Any thoughts?

Asymmetrical 4148 diodes is possibly a good option. Two in series in one direction, one the other direction.

Hi linuxius

On an Italian pedal mod site/page.
I saw a mod where they use back to back 3.3V 400mW zener diodes.
I don't remember if they did much else.

I'll see if I took a snapshot of the page?
Regards Dr. Bob

Here is the link in Italian.

Just click on the sch. & final picture links in the very top section.
& you will see what they have done.
else use Google translate or Bable Fish to to translate the page/site

Unless of course you can read the Italian.

Hope this helps
Regards & Good night Dr. Bob

I have not tried this mod.

Dr. Bob: Thanks a lot!

Looks interesting although my Italian very bad and babelfish did not do much better, but the pictures say enough.

I'm thinking about trying this one which a switch so I can turn it on an off to really test the difference. Also thinking of putting a 4-way switch in the clipping circuit and add four different types of clippers (Diodes, MOSFET, Asym etc). So I can see what me likes the most. I will try the make some sound samples and make them available.

BTW those Italians have a very good schematic. I also have a "to low resolution" one without part numbers. Is there anyone around here who has the complete version of this schematic?

Thanks a lot!

Try using Google translate, it seems to work OK for me.

Au contraire! I've been stuffing them in FB loops with great success! Just use a pair for heavy compression, or add 1N34A's/Schottky's/etc. to give things a bit more air. The Zendrive uses a 2N7000/BAT41 combo in a FB loop.

The only trial and error part is playing around with how hard to drive the stage with the clippers in the loop. I find that less is usually better, and have gone as low as 33K (this is stages without a drive pot).
