My much loved and well used OD-1. Honest wear from over 24 years
of travel. Added a second output jack back in 1988 due to the rig
I was using at that time. Lost the Overdrive knob somewhere in
Tokyo in 1991, replaced with what I had in the junk drawer at the time. Absolute must have in any system I have used. I have yet
to find a unit that sounds so nice as an OD-1.

If Boss ever do a Custom Shop Reissue of any pedal,
like Fender do, with their:
beat up,
old,
used,
almost trashed,
but still working guitars.
I will be the first to vote your OD-1 as the first pedal they should reissue. 
I have been looking for a Fender knob like that one, for a ages now,
I need it to fix my Fender 75, & make it look stock again.

If you go to this link on this Bossarea site.
It states that, there were a number of different IC's (Chips)
used in the OD-1.

Any chance, that you may know which Chip, is in your version of the pedal?
It looks old enough to have been the RC3403ADB Op-Amp Chip.
In the OD-2 literature, it says that the "non-turbo mode", sounds "like?" the OD-1.
But I have no reference, to compare by,
and I'm not too sure, as the OD-2 is built using discrete transistors, not Op-Amps.

if theres any Boss pedal that deserves to be beat up that bad, its certainly the OD-1 which is in my opinion, the best boss pedal! |

It has a lot of appeal, and bears your own honest battle-scars as you say. Does it provide a variety of sounds for band playing, or is it used for one specific purpose? I'm still experimenting with mine, it seems to go further than I would have imagined into distortion territory too.
It's funny, but I wonder what existing vintage pedals will look like in another 50 years, will they have holes worn in them, the metal cases all rounded like pebbles 
I believe Analogman has relic'ed new pedals for customers, so it does happen just as it does for guitars.
I managed to ding my guitar neck the other day, I'd just waited over a week for the nitro finish to cure - I was furious with myself then I remembered the whole 'relic' thing, and as the guitar body is a little beat up it does match better now. The first scratch hurts, then it's just 'adding character' I suppose.

My first Boss pedal was the green phaser (PS-2?)...loved that thing,
had it a long time, but it's long gone. My second one is still here. It's a CE-2 I bought it new in 1980. It's been through a lot (like me) but it's still on my pedalboard and still used often...sounds awesome and seems indestructible. |
