Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area (first time poster) but I have an odd question I am hoping someone here might be able to answer.
We recently had our home broken into and 2 of the things stolen were my Boss ME-50 and my Boss RC-20 Loop station. We reported the gear stolen to the local police and luckily I still had the original boxes so I have my serial numbers.
We started looking on eBay and 4 days after we were robbed both pedals showed up from the same seller in our town and by the way the power cord on the Boss was wrapped (I use unusual tape to secure) I could tell it was mine. The police recommended that we have a friend purchase the pedals and once we received them verify the serial numbers and then they would contact Ebay to get the sellers info.
We received the pedals last night and the seller had removed the serial number stickers from both and replaced them with just white printed stickers with a fictitious serial number. I know they are mine because they still contained all of my samples. My question is does anyone know if there is also a serial number stamped inside of the units? Looks like my ME-50 will be the easiest to open but want to ask before I tried.
Thanks in advance.
J.

wow that really sucks Its a good thing you got them back, and i really hope you get that asshole (and your money back).
About the serial numbers, I know theres a stamp on the PCB, but im unsure if the serial matchs the outside serial. Theres no harm im opening it up to check, but if you want to know for sure before you open it, then wait for someone else to answer.
I can open up one of my pedals and see, but I wont get to it for a couple hours (if no one answers by then) |

Don't think there's anything inside that displays the serial number.
The fact that the serial numbers were replaced with fake numbers should still be enough to nail the bastard. Hope he gets what he deserves. |

Welcome to the forum fistoffusion!
Sorry to hear about your loss but I'm glad you got the gear back.
I hope you get the guy who did it! Was there other stuff from you place that was listed on ebay? Maybe with enough things you could prove it was that guy.
I any case I think ebay and the police would be very interested in hearing about your situation. |

Hi fistoffusion Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the break-in
We're all glad you got you gear back, even though you had to buy it.
the simple answer to your internal serial number question is NO, there are no internal matching serial numbers.
I have pulled apart lots of pedals & gear, I have never found internal serial numbers. Although some NEW products have a revision number or code in the Roms or microprocessor.

| Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply, I didnt think there was but wanted to verify. The cops are investigating this with the help of ebay and we are just lucky that nothing was stolen that couldnt be replaced. |
