since you guys know EVERYTHING about Boss pedals, I'm wondering if anyone here knows or owns Oliver pedals. they were made in Brazil by Roland at a time when stores weren't allowed to sell imported goods (that was until the early '90s) and allegedly used the same circuits as Boss pedals. the equivalent to a Boss SD-1, for example, was called SD-10. I don't know much more than that about them, though... any additional info is welcome I've owned a BF-20 and a CE-30 and right now my SD-10 is being sold at a pawn shop. I wanted to trade them for "real" Boss stuff. |

sure. they're all black and made of what seems to be a lighter kind of metal with details in the same color of the original Boss stompboxes.
here's a picture of the SD-10: Download Attachment: foto 001.jpg 53.51 KB |

Never seen one of these before (not really surprising if they were made exclusively for the Brazilian market). To find out if it's really the same design as in Boss pedals I guess you will have to get one and pick it apart. If you do we want pictures |

this guy I know who fixes and makes his own compact pedals told me that he set apart a SD-10 and a SD-1 and that they were exactly the same. however, he's not sure about the others... I thought about making an experiment - putting together 2 identical sets: one Boss and one Oliver and see if they sound any different, but that would cost me a lot of money. the idea tempts me, though... |

I bought a Keeley DS-1 SEM (ultra not on board, it seemed to be a "Fat" switch, wich I generally don't like) a while ago in the idea to "push" my valve amp, a Mesa Dual Caliber 50. Not that I needed more gain because the DC50 has tons of it and goes unbearable loud as well. I was in search for a good singing solo sound a la (I know it's cliche) vai/satch & co.
I couldn't test the keeley in advance because I don't have shops around that have it in stock. but it sounds pretty quiet compared to other boss distortions I had. problem is, if I dail the tone further than 10 o clock, it starts really to sound harsh/plastic/piercing to me.
some people say it's fine for the purpose of pushing a valve amp, other say it's a distorion pedal and not a valve-pusher like a Tubescreamer. Until now, I'm not really satisfied :/ |

Hey pmike, don't feel bad for wanting that sound. The reason it's cliche and desireable is because, after all, a really good tone to acheive and have some fun with. Especially seeing as an integral part of their effect chains are Boss effects... |

Hi there! I´m from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I heard that rumour too. People said that it´s the same Boss pedal manufactured by Roland BUT with a different name. |

| They have a look of a Bunker. However they are intriguing, how many other monikers have Roland manufactured pedals under? |

| Great if you can post some pics. Pictures of the internals is also of interest. Would be interesting to see if the PCBs and numbering are the same as in their Asian counterparts. |
