Hi Guys I just looked through the Aldi Supermarkets sales flyer that came in our junk mail today. Starting on Nov 30th in Australia, they have (6) different guitar pedals on sale. All the pedals are listed at $29.99 Aust.
They look like the re-badged Ibanez SoundTank series of pedals, that we see every so often on EvilBay ... The Black ABS plastic beetle type pedals.
Distortion - Overdrive - Chorus - Heavy Metal - Delay - & Flanger But ... NO PHASER. The Flanger is in a different metal case, looks like a different manufacturer. They are being sold under the Livingstone brand Aldi also have a Chromatic Tuner & Metronone for $19.99 Aust.
As well as a couple of Fender & Gibson Looking guitars for $269 Aust. And a 50 Watt guitar amp with 10 inch spkr. built in overdrive & tuner for $149 Aust. And wait there's more ---- a full size, Violin with case, bow & tuner for $129 All under the livingstone brand, must be a brand name Aldi picked out of tin air.
The Delay looks like the Ibanez SoundTank DL5 which I posted a repair thread on, in the Technical & Mods forum.
Perhaps Aldi are doing or did a similar deal in other countries. Any feedback from you guys would be appreciated.
I am in no way affiliated with Aldi or it's subsidiaries
Just though I'd let you know, in case someone was looking for some stuff to fill their Xmas stockings.

| Man, I wonder if they'll sell them in the US too. Might be fun to mod/bend these. |

That's not bad for AU$30. Even cheaper than Behringer pedals!
Could be fun to experiment with these things!!!

Hi Ronster & Guys They look like the Ibanez Soundtank Series of pedals, all but the Flanger. I will try to get one of the Delay pedals, to compare it to the DE5 I just repaired, it sounds very retro & analogue.
I can see that they will be popular & will probably sell very quickly.

Hi FRANZONI & Guys
Aldi in Australia are good like that as well, they will replace it or give you your money back, just keep the receipts.
Well just to inform you all, the pedals in all four store near my home, sold out in the first few hours. I managed to get hold of the following: Overdrive....E10OD1 Yellow Distortion....E10DS1 Orange Chorus........E10CH1 Blue
Do you guys notice anything familiar about the colors & model numbering.
I pulled the all 3 pedals apart soon as I got home, what else would a Engineering Muso do...
The OD1 Overdrive yellow pedal, has a JRC4558 with 3 diodes in an asymmetrically clipping configuration. It uses the common FET flip flop circuit like in a Boss pedal for the effect switching & bypass.
The DS1 distortion Orange pedal, has 2 JRC4558's with just 2 or twin diodes for symmetrical clipping, it seems that one JTC4558 is driven into the other 4558 to get the distortion sound. There is also a 4007 IC that is used for the effect on & bypass switching, instead of the common FET flip flop circuit.
The CH1 chorus Blue pedal, uses a common BBD Bucket Brigade Belay 3207 IC, & associated clock driver IC. it also has a JRC4558 as an input & output buffer preamp, & a JRC022 blah blah, opamp-comparator IC, that is used for the oscillator that sets the speed of the RATE control.
HOW DO THEY SOUND Well all crap aside, the OD1 is just superb, it is silky smooth & dirties up nicely, but the pot seems to be the wrong taper, Log instead of linear, as the drive control seems to be all bunched up near the start ot it;s travel. A great sounding pedal, I have been playing with it all weekend.
The DS-1 is a nice sounding pedal as well, it is very similar to my recently purchased MIJ Boss DS-1 (the real one), it was well worth the money, & like the OD1 yellow pedal, it's a keeper as well.
The CH1 Blue pedal chorus, is an all round nice sounding pedal as well, while it's not a Boss CE-2, it's a fraction darker, as the CE-2 has a mid freq. boost. The CH1 Blue pedal chorus, would still sit very well in, anyones pedal baord. I don't own a Boss CH-1 to compare with the blue chorus.
The OD1 yellow pedal, is by far, the best pedal out of the three that I managed to get. All the other pedals, like the Delay, flanger & heavy matal pedal were all sold out, so I obviously can't make any comments on those.
Overall they are Wolfs in sheep's clothing, the crap "Livingstone" name & branding, belittled what were obviously very good attempts, to copy some of Boss's finest pedals.
These pedals seem to be sold under the Daphon brand name on EvilBay. The daphon pedals have the same E10DS1, E10xx1 model numbers.
At first I was a bit disappointed that I ony managed to get the Overdrive, distortion 7 the chorus pedals. I was really after the Digital delay pedal. But I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sound & the quality of the circuit boards & components used.
You could probably make the yellow overdrive pedal into a TubeScreamer Clone, I would first short out one of the diodes in the asymmetrical clipping section.
Anyway enough of another EPIC posting from me again.
I am in no way affiliated with Aldi or it's subsidiaries
Regards Dr. Bob
PS Did anyone managed to get one of the delay pedals? Tell us what you think of it, how does it sound, how long is the delay time?

Hi indytone they are sold under the Daphon brand on EvilBay and the metal case versions are sold under the SWAMP name. they are probably re-badged under many different brands, But they seem to keep the E10xx1 model numbers on the plastic (Ibanez SoundTank) styled cases, with a heavy metal base.
Read my other EPIC post & review. The overdrive is the pedal to get from the three that managed to buy. It is just the smoothest pedal I have played with for along time. The overdrive needs no mods or bends in my humble opinion. The Orange distortion pedal sounds, very much like a real Boss DS-1
And all from an almost unknown maker from China. I will be keeping on eye out for more of these pedals.
They look crap, but they sound just like the Big Boys toys. And Aldi package, a battery inside every pedal, so you are up & running straight away.. Kids that got them for Xmas with the Aldi amp & Guitar will probably be selling these off in the coming months, unless they have a big Brother-Sister-Dad-Mom, that knows & appreciates, the tone of the Boss pedals they are copying.

That sounds like the same supermarket chain, I don't know about the slogan though, maybe they use that one in the UK.
The flanger pedal was the only one in that style of case, the rest were in the plastic cases known as the E10 Series. If you look at the model number on that Compressor pic, you will see that, the metal cased ones are the E20 Series.
Hey NetStar Do you own that Compressor pedal? or was it a pic on the net? If you do what is the compressor like?
Don't drool too much, they were all sold in about 2 hours. Have a look at this link it has some of the E10 series I bought one of the Overdrives, I will try to upload the pic now, else just to to the EvilBay link http://cgi.ebay.com/DAPHON-E10-ANALOG-EFFECTs-LOT-Delay-Chorus-DS-MT-OD-PH_W0QQitemZ110060976977QQihZ001QQcategoryZ41415QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I just uploaded it, it went fine according to the dialog box, but I can't see the image.

Hi BossArea Any Idea why I can't seem to get an image to display, It was a 12K .jpg file...
I clicked on insert an image file. I get the browse & upload dialog box. I browsed for the file. I selected it.
I assume, that the pic loads, at the cursor location?
It said loading file into Bob/ Some number -- Some path. And then said done or completed, & click here to close window.
Please tell me what I might be doing wrong? and can you see the file I uploaded? it's called Overdrive.jpg?
Thanks in advance. Dr. Bob
