Hi Guys While I'm no expert on these matters. I belive this (composite) picture pretty much sums up how hot it was here in Melbourne - Victoria - Australia, yesterday.
We drove about 160Km home, we were visiting the family over the past few days. To make it a bit easier on ourselves, we drove home at about 8PM in the evening. the sun was well down & the outside air temp had dropped to about 35C
That's (bitumen) road surface-tarmac whatever you call it in your country, & melted to the tyres. Only on the two tyres nearest the edge of the road. In Australia, that's the passenger side of the car.
Now all I have to do is try to figure out how to remove it.
My Brother in Law (joker that he is) asked if I had new bitumen retreads?
Regards Dr. Bob

Pheeu, that't hot Dr. Bob!!! Here in Philadelphia Pa. In the US, it was 15F this morning. My old 68 Plymouth Wagon wasn't to thrilled with getting up! Oh well, these extremes help to make us enjoy a nice spring day! Cheers, Pedal Dan |

Dr. Bob,
If I knew who your premier was right now I'd give them a call and alert them that you're stealing the roads over there in Vic...
How's the bushfire situation where you are? We were lucky here in SA, only a few small grass fires which are mainly out now.
>Only on the two tyres nearest the edge of the road. >In Australia, that's the passenger side of the car. >
That's the passenger side of the car in every country isn't it? In countries where they drive on the right (ie most countries) The driver sits on the left of the car. Well, atleast that's the way it's been evrywhere I've driven on the right (Canada, Netherlands, Vietnam, Iran). That's why the indicators and wipers are around the wrong way for us on European cars, they don't bother changing them for the right-hand drive market... |

Wow Dr. Bob, you could tar your entire roof with that.
No wonder why road taxes are so expensive |

Wow, I thought those temps would be hot. 35C is only 95F? Your roads shouldn't be melting at 95! And 43C is only 109.4? Y'all need to visit Phoenix in late June, early July. That's what we'd call a break in the heat.

If you could figure out how to get some nice sharp gravel stuck in those 'Tar-Tredds', you could probably take over the Irish Export Division of my second-hand tire chain empire.
Maybe a multi-axle trailer with a few dozen 'tyres' to soak up the bitumen, then a brief run through a quarry, with a final dip in some epoxy-adhesive blend. |

You'd enjoy April much more for a BBQ.
BTW, there a story like this in the Phoenix news last summer where the asphalt (what we call it here) on a private street softened in the heat like that. It was improperly mixed, IIRC. The battle went on for months between the residents & the pavers until they fixed it. |
