I use the 590 with its integrated tone generator & metronome.
Its not cheap but gives me that instant old-school response.

I had one for a while, a bit over kill on the tuning front. If you are going to start doing intonation, setups, that kind of thing. Are you thinking of getting one?

A bit off topic but Ive read somewhere on the internet that TU-2 used in the streaming mode is not very far away from Petersons accurately. Someone, a guitar technican, had tested them side by side and found that in the streaming mode TU-2 was far better than in the standard mode.
But for intonation I dont trust TU-2, I have a Zeico tuner with a real needle thats very good for that.

I use my ears for intonation and a cheap tuner for reference

Live, it's a good idea to have the entire band tune up with the same tuner, so that you're at least in tune to each other.

I have an older Peterson VS-1, and IHMO it's too precise to use for anything except setting intonation. if you like doing setups yourself, and/or if you do a lot of recording, and you have also enough instruments to keep it busy, I would recommend one. but I never use my VS-1 otherwise.

I've used a VS-II extensively, and played around with strobo-stomps. They're very nice, but if you're not used to the strobe mechanism, it can be a little fiddly. For highly accurate intonation, it's nice to see all the bars go steady.

The big 590 that Defrag uses.. what can I say dude, you have the best of everything! It's a killer tuner - but sometimes the wheel makes a noise that drives people insane!! I knew a tech who was offered one and couldn't use it.. back the virtual strobe...

How accurate is the TU-2? The Korg PitchBlack is down to 0.01, and costs something like $50 less than the Boss (since the economy tanked and Boss drove their prices way up).

Btw, since I gave my TU-2 to my son.. the Turbo Tuner has been on my list for a while.
I'm just not in a band ATM so the buy is pending...
