Would like to find out if the DS-1 MIJ Silver Screw had the ET-28E PCB version? Saw one for sale, the unit had this E-version board but with a black screw and black switch. The unit comes with the long dash lettering. From the sticky thread on the internal pics (pg 2), the MIJ version with the short dash and black screw had the ET-28F board.
The PCB probably changed slightly when the momentary LED was replaced with the permanent LED. This happened around serial number 9000. Do you know what the serial number was?
I had a look at the schematic as well as my oldest two DS-1s (071700 and one without serial) and found that the DS-1s with momentary LED will have a PCB marked ET-28C. ET-28E started from serial 9000. My 071700 has the ET-28E board while the other one has the ET-28F board. Based on component codes, I estimate that my serial number-less DS-1 should have serial 10xx00 (All date codes in the 07 are 1D, all date codes in the other are 1G).
There are two changes between ET-28E and ET-28F:
The protection diode, D1, has moved. Circuit-wise it's still in the same place but it's been relocated on the board.
The LED driver transistor Q9 along with D9 and R34 has been removed.
None of the changes will affect the sound of the pedal.
Interesting. I was only thinking yesterday about DS-1 variations. How many versions are there - on a circuit level, that is? I noticed my 2004 model seems to have a couple less components than the eralier ones - and was wondering if this was an audio component change or not.
