Hi Guys
A few people have known, that I have been working away for many evenings, during my last few weeks of annual leave, during the end of year break.
Especially those that seemed to be getting replies from me, at all hours of the day & night.
Well, I locked myself here, in the secret underground Lab, situated right next to The Large Hadron Collider & partial accelerator, & just across the street from KAOS's secret headquarters & Labs.
Pulled out all the old & new toys, & set about making a short video, to go with the current release of Terraforming-Landmass.mp3, that's already on the server with my other tracks.
See topic for the Audio: http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6242
I had to compress the video into an MPG4, & down to about 6-7Megs (6.2M). Obviously I lost some of the resolution & frame rate.
The file is called: Terraforming-Landmass.mp4
It plays in most media players that recognize MPG4 - MP4 - mp4. If not get a codec for your media player, or download the freeware open GNU video player called ( VLC ) - just search for VLC in Google.
The Video is a little abstract, but I feel it fits the Audio Track.
Here is the "Main Link", for those that can't seen to find the server link in my profile: http://www.technical-services.com.au/DrBob/

I like the music.
You've clearly spent too much of your youth listening to JMJ or The Orb.

Hi PaulH & Guys
Thanks for you kind comment/s. But I have never heard of these bands-artists.
I do every track, on a track by track basis, some get used as backing on DVD's or corporate promo's, whatever. Others are just what happens to take my fancy at the time, or for a bit of fun.
DeFrag... thumbs up buddy. At least someone spotted the the (partial) joke. In fact I hope most people spot the fact, that the entire post was a bit of a joke. KAOS's secret headquarters & Labs, are really in the next town, not across the street.
There is still the fact, that no-one to date, has found the Easter-egg in my "Temporal Storm" track, I guess it was just too subtle.
For those that are interested, the original uncompressed video, was over 212Megs in size. And yes, there is a short silence in the prequel of the video.
Regards Dr. Bob

Great stuff Dr.Bob - reminds me a couple of tracks that I remember from when I was into 'trance' and all that genre - 'The Future Sound of London' and an album called 'Lifeforms'...and 'The Orb' (who PaulH also mentions), in particular, a track called 'Little Fluffy Clouds' - it sounds like a cheesy title but it's a great track with a haunting sample of a woman's voice...you'll see what I mean if you can get hold of it
I've got a commercial release compilation album with all this kind of stuff on it and your track would definitely not be out of place there - very professional and nice work
PS: the compilation is called 'Logic Trance 2' on 'Logic Records' 1994. |

JMJ = Jean Michel Jarre
Surely you've heard of him. Check out his Oxygene remastered CD/DVD. The DVD has a live performance of all of Oxygene all played on vintage synths (no midi etc..)... pure synth heaven!!! |

Finally got a chance to listen to this... And I too immediately thought "Jarre". That's a huge compliment... Fantastic stuff!!
Have a listen to "The Concerts in China" if you haven't heard it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Concerts_in_China
Dr. Bob, are you an Edgar Froese/Tangerine Dream fan?

Hi redundant
First of all, & not to tick you off, I won't say yes or no at this point. At what two points in (Temporal Storm.mp3) track's time-line, did you think you heard the easter-egg?

Hi PaulH
Yes I have heard of Jean Michel Jarre, I just didn't recognize him when referenced as JMJ.
I will try & track down is live DVD, playing live synths, haven't seen that for a l-o-n-g time.
I have not heard of, or listened to 'The Future Sound of London' and an album called 'Lifeforms'...and 'The Orb', that I am aware of. although I would bee keen to hear their work.
And thanks to both yourself & The_Doc, for your compliments.

Hi Laurie
Thanks for all the compliment/s And to be put on a similar pedestal as "Jarre" you really make me blush.
I had a backup on an old cassette of Jarre's Oxygene, when I was in my teens, it's probably still around somewhere. I guess I really should buy a CD/DVD remastered version. It was considered pretty out-there-modern stuff back then.
As for, Edgar Froese/Tangerine Dream Yes I have heard some of Tangerine Dream's stuff over the yeas, but not much of Edgar Froese, that I can really recall.
I think I've said it before a few times, but I actually don't listen to a lot of commercial music. I know it's impossible to be insulated, but I tend to search out stuff, old LP's, cassettes, CD's of little known artists.
For a while I was very fortunate to be asked to back up & play with some of Australia's most famous & sometimes infamous blues players. Both male and female artists. let me tell you, it was an exciting & wild 2 Year ride. I say very little about those days, in case people feel I'm bragging or boasting.
Would I do it all again? -- yeap, in a heartbeat.
These days it's short cameo spots with friends bands, occasionally, someone asks me to work on soundtracks or beep noises, for corporate promo videos. Or to sit in as a "need you right now! session guy" at local project studios. Or can you bring your toolkit & soldering iron, our (equipment (inset brand name) just sh!t itself).
Sometimes a finger-picking, non-vocal, acoustic solo set, at some of the local clubs, or friends parties. I usually wait until the folks have had a few or reds, I tend to sound a lot better then.
And I occasionally upload some stuff for you guys to listen to.
On your own, it's lengthy & time consuming work fun.
Laurie did you listen to the MP3 or did you get to see the MP4 Video?
Thanks again for your encouragement & support. Watch for more tracks in coming months.
Regards Dr. Bob...

Spin up a little green friend and revisit your college days.
The video is GREAT.. the song is equally amazing. I have a co-worker who makes ambient tracks like this, but this has more focus and energy. The video accompaniment is very fitting as well - I'd like to see the FULL resolution version through my playstation3 @ 1080p.

Let us make this our shared creed (or, better yet, let us share this creed with others): do what you can do with what you've got, throw it out there into the big virtual world, & hope it has an impact on someone. |
