BOSS have done a couple of Choruses thru the years. Many rate the CE-2 as the best. But, wich one do you think is the most usable, have the widest range and fits all kind of music without kompromise on the tone? (I don´t think the twin-pedal fits here though)

I like the DC-3 the best.
The "level" knob is very useful..

Analogue CE-5... nearly as good as a CE-2 and lots more flexibility.

Hi Shoegazers Anonymous

Is your Question specifically only about Boss Chorus Pedals?

Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Dr.B!

Well, that was what I have in mind. But it´s always fun to hear about others too.

Hi Laurie!

Now you make me interested. Analogue CE-5, is there a digital? Or do you just mean that it´s good cause of it´s analogue?

Hi Shoegazers Anonymous

There are two versions of the CE-5.
The older one is an analog one, that uses an MN3007 BBD chip.
The newer-later version has a digital chip in it.

Lauries Analog CE-5:

We don't have internal pics of the newer digital version of the CE-5.
If anyone has the digital version, please upload some pics?

Other brands of chorus:
Arion SCH-1 stereo chorus, (but NOT the newer SCH-Z reissue)

Ok, so if I want a analogue ce-5, how can I see that it is one? Any timeline or so?

Bossarea might have to chime in here, he will probably have a better idea, of approx. where (serial number) the change occurred.

If you you Laurie's S/N as a guide, I suppose any CE-5 before that date is analog.
CE-5 MIT serial JN53647 June-2000
My analog CE-5 is Aug-93

Ibanez chorus pedals, like the older DCL-10 (digital, real 80's vibe) sound great too, also with distortion.

I've pulled the backplate off the two I've bought locally to visually check... it's the only safe way. Older MN3007 chips on a single layer board versus surface mount DSP chips on a dual layer board in the newer ones.

DC-2 is my favorite. Not very flexible, but I like the stereo imaging from it better than any other chorus. I always thought chorus was a strong point for Boss. I like all of the CE pedals.

I liked the DC-2 best (still do like it) until I tried two analogue CE-5's - one in each channel. I split the signal with the RV-3 and sent each output into a CE-5 then into a DD-7 (stereo mode) then to the two amps. Yeah, boffo, a good one

A safe way to determine if a CE-5 (or CH-1) is analog is to check the serial number. The second letter/first digit combination should be P0 or earlier. From P1 the design had changed. That also means that all digital CE-5s have dark gray labels so if your CE-5 has a different colour, it's analog.
