I am thinking about purchase NS-2, is there any pros and cons of using it ?.... for example, is it really effective for noise reduction? is there any effect on the orignal effects sound?..(will it alter the tone, the gain or the sustain of the sound ?) thx for giving me opinion |

| My only experience is with the predecessor to the NS2, which was the NF1. It is very good at reducing unwanted noise and I don't rememeber it having any negative effect on my tone. The drawback to the NF1, which I believe is one of the changes made in the NS2, is that the decay of you note can sometimes be cut off rather abruptly if you aren't careful with your settings. Apparently the NS2 has a much smoother attack/release. |

Yes there are changes in your sound, but they are very slight. The best noisereduction is the switch off your noisiest pedals after you do not need it any longer, for example: You may play a solo or particular part in a song with a distortion, during this moment you may hear more noise, but really since any distortion or overdrive will produce more noise, you will not really hear this while you are playing, you will only notice it after you stop playing, so switch it off.
The NS-2 is good and versatile, but does take a little of your tone.
Just try it for yourself and see how you feel about it.
The NS-2 does also have a loop, but again, this loop function also takes away from your tone. Really any loop does, the LS-2 does it as well.
Bossfreak mentiond the NF-1, well that one also takes a bit away from your tone, but it is ever so slight, just as much really as the NS-2 does. |

Most noise suppressors are just a filter that cuts everything when the signal goes under a threshold. The NS-2 adds some intelligence to this. I'm not sure how it works but my guess is that it samples the signal when it is weak, flips it 180 degrees to cancel it out and continues to do this when the signal is stronger too. I use it all the time. Maybe it steals a little signal but I haven't noticed it.
I recently read an interview with Yngwie Malmsteen. He was using some Rocktron Hush rackmounts and one of them broke. His roadie replaced it with an NS-2 without telling him. Yngwie couldn't understand where all the noise had gone. |

| I thnk that Yngwie's NS2 just sold on eBay. Might have been his LS2, but I can't remember for sure. |

Off-Topic Rabbit Trail:
The guys behind Rocktron sold out to GHS Corp., who moved manufacturing to Korea & China. Then they (The original Rocktron guys, I don't remember their names) started up ISP Technologies and are making the Decimator noise suppression pedal. I haven't played with one, but the audio clips on their website are pretty impressive.
Grace and peace,
Steve

| I've heard of that one, but isn't it fairly pricey? |

| That's actually not too bad. I haven't really had the need for a noise gate, but I'm going to keep that in mind. |

Aagh now we have a new tool for speeding up your chops: Get as NS-2 and learn to play the Igwie way................................
If the man could only change his approach to how he plays guitar and composes songs in general, that would be really refreshing, but I guess it is asking for too much, since the man has been successful with his tricks for some 28 yrs. now.

I think he did but it blew up when he plugged it in. There's just so much an ES-2 can take |

Heh boss freak, I like the idea of the ES-2 , he probably would find a great application for it, or perhaps he would use a true bypass!!..........who knows eh?!! |

| Maybe they need to run a few of them at once... We've heard about cascading distortion, but how about cascading two or three ES-2s between Ynqwie's foot and his mouth? |
