What is the guitar you bought for quite a bit of money and then regretted the most?
Or what is the worst guitar you bought for say like US $5-700?
I have bought some guitars that I regret rather fast but the worst must be Line6 Variax 500, on the paper it looked really good. Over 10 guitars (including acoustics) in one, no buzz or noise, no magnetic pull
Yaeh, I bought it without really testing it, stupid of me
The models where close but not there, impressive although, but the lack of dynamics made it really bad-sounding and hard played. There was a compression to every note that sounded so bad. The guitar was well build anyway.
I used it for recording and there it was usable, the un-natural sounds were hidden behind everything else. But it was a nightmare playing, it didnīt feel right at all.
I gave it a try after a try, but no
.
Luckily enough I had a chance trade it against a Gibson W&F SG, of course I did that.

my ultimate guitar, bought from ebay for Ģ500
couldnt get on with the neck lacquer and short scale gutted.
sold for Ģ750 but still gutted... i love rics |

Tobias bass  traded it later for a Warwick streamer II  which I traded later on for a 80's usa BC Rich mockingbird bass and a Kramer XL 8 string bass. Still got the mockingbird  |

I've always liked the shape of the BC Rich Mockingbird so a couple of years ago I decided to get one. I had to pay around Ģ350 (US$700) for it. I bought it off the net so wasn't able to test before buying. It was advertised as Made in Korea but was actually made in China.
The bridge was in the wrong place so it wasn't possible to intonate it properly. The nut was cut too deep and would need to be replaced. There was two dings although the box was factory sealed.
I ended up selling it on Ebay with a big loss after just 2 weeks. |

Don't flame me for this... I bought a Les Paul Studio from a friend about 4 years ago. I've picked it up exactly twice (no really). The neck radius just doesnt work for my big hands.
I bought a PRS to get the hum-bucker sound (much better for my hands). The LP is in storage - I'll sell it in Australia when I move back in a few years (would have sold it already if not for the fact I can get a lot more for it in Oz).
Anyway, I had dreamed of an LP for years... and it didn't work out <sigh>. |

The Worst guitar I have bought is my:
Blackie Strat
I just can't seem to stop myself from playing it more & more,
to the point, that I hardly touch the other guitars in my collection.
I play Blackie every day, & every chance I get.
But I suppose Goran meant (worst) literally....

I got a cheap Jackson from Musician's Friend once. The tuning was not very stable, the EMG pickups were noisy, and the thing felt like it was made out of styrofoam. I returned it after one day.

I have a couple Ovation Ultra GS guitars that I love. I have had one of them since 1985. Ironically the worst guitar I ever owned was also an Ovation Ultra GS. It would not stay in tune or intonate. Now matter how the truss rod and bridge were adjusted the low strings would flap on the frets. It sounded terrible with the stock Dimarzio (as my other Ovations did) so I put in a Duncan JB and it still sounded terrible.
Ended up dumping it on Ebay for $62. I took a huge hit on that one. |

I have had exactly the same experience with Les pauls.
When I heard the sounds Peter Green, and Clapton, was getting out of these in the 60īs it became my dream guitar.
Back then they where totally out of reach pricewise, and it was a dream to be with me for many years.
In the later half of the 70īs I got hold on a Fender Stratocaster, they where cheaper than Les Pauls. It became my main guitar for many years, but the dream was there..
In the early 80īs I finally bought a Les Paul Deluxe (with maple neck
.) and I didnīt like it at all
Sold it and thought that a flamed top and mahogany neck would do it
Then I had a Les Paul Junior and a Les Paul Special from the 50īs for a while, the Junior was very very good, but not a real Les Paul.
I played a lot with a couple of late 50īs Les Pauls (the expensive ones) that my best friend had, remember they where not as expensive then. They where good but
I was a Fender man by then, but the dream was still there, that tone Peter Green got.
In the early 2000īs I bought a flamed high end Les Paul for big money, but I didnīt like it that much so I sold it after a couple of years. And my dream was gone, I was cured!
I have a Gibson Les Paul Special (low end) now, but seldom use it. I like my SG a lot more.

Last year I bought an 8-string bass on Ebay for 450 euros or so.
It seemed really interesting at first, and it does sound very cool with that octave up guitar string along with the bass strings.
It was also a very well build, neck through instrument from the 70's build by Matsumoku, but I couldn't get used to the huge neckdive, plus I couldn't use a lot of techniques like stringbending and such.
I was lucky enough to trade it against a really nice Custom (Ibanez daughter) Les Paul copy, so I have no real regrets. |

Strange goran hated his but......i had a lend of a original wine coloured Les Paul Deluxe for 6 months when i was younger,it belonged to my guitar teacher at the time and i lent him a spare strat i had,i was nearly crying when he took it back...i offered to buy it if he was ever selling but he swapped it for a late 60's tele.... the guy only wanted Ģ650 old irish pounds back then for the tele..i would have given it to him for the gibson instead he swapped it...... ......... |

I bought a new guitar of Ebay, a Career stage Les Paul.. Its a nightmare, the switch didn't work, the PU's are noisy and have low output, the frets are sharp and the action is almost unplayable high.
Its hanging on the wall now and i don't tend to take it of. |

Beleive it or not, the worst guitar I ever had was a 1986 Gibson EDS1275 double neck. The stinking thing was heavy as a house and would never stay in tune. Traided for some recording equipment which I still have.
