Okay, I thought I'd continue on in the "Favorite" thread tradition...
What's your favorite All Around Guitar amp. No A/B setups between amps here. Just one amp. Does it do everything you want? Does it do just one thing but does it well? Is it loud enough?
I don't have mine yet. I want a Fender Twin. Actually, I really like the Cyber Twin, which is nuts for me because I HATE onboard effects on an amp.
My dream would be a Mesa Lonestar or a Dr. Z.

| Carr Slant 6V. This amp has a clean and overdrive channel. Both channels are completely separate circuits with separate eq. The clean channel has reverb and the overdrive channel has a boost function. With the boost it is almost like a three channel amp. The sound is like a Deluxe Reverb with the boost like a Deluxe Reverb modded for high gain. It uses 6V6 power tubes. It has 18, 22, and 40 watt power settings. It has an effects loop with a bypass. It has bias test points on the back for easy biasing. On top of all this they somehow figured out how to build all these features into the amp with point to point wiring! |

| I really like my friends Mesa Boogie Mark IV, but it would have to be my Fender 'Eighty-Five' solid state combo. I really like the way it doesn't round off your attack, it keeps it shark, it doesnt have any built in effects (other than a reverb tank) and it's great for the type of music I play. |

At this point my favorite amp is one that is loud, works, and that you don't have to be on steroids to carry by yourself....
My dream amp is....well I've always liked the look and sound of Orange, intruiged by Matamp, and then Soldano's single channel 20w Astroverb head seems to call my name...
The one amp I am most curious about currently, is the Epiphone Blues Custom 2x12 30w switchable to 15w combo tube amp. Seen some good reviews, but they were on Harmony Central and Musicians Friend, so I don't know...

Fender Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue (DRRI).
THE pinnacle of "clean tone" (IMO) The best reverb and "vibrato" (read tremolo) (ALL TUBE TOO!) Tube rectifier for that "spongy" feel with awesome natural compression Easy enough to carry Can drive it loud at home without getting the cops called around (depends where you live, I guess) Enough headroom for a club gig too NO built in effects No Master Volume - I like non-master volume amps for their simpler design - less tone colouration
AND, this is the beauty for us BOSS freaks - they LOVE pedals!
An original would be even sweeter though. |

when it comes to amps, i say the plainer the better. my pedal setup is big, and any sounds i want to acheive i can and will get from my floor effects. my amp doesnt even have gain. i always play into it clean with EQ exactly at 5.
i am still not convinced with built in amp effects.
my current amp is a Kustom Lead II from mid 70s. ive never seen another one and never even heard of anyone with one besides me.
i also have one of those little Marshall "pocket amps." they are fun i strap it onto my back pocket, and put my OD-2 in my front pocket with just the knobs sticking out, enabling me to run around the house playing "angus" style |

I'm not sure what my fav amp is at the moment but I love Stratosphere's idea of running around the house with a guitar, amp and pedal all strapped to the body!!!

There's a guy every year that runs the whole length of the St. Patricks day parade doing just that: Guitar, amp & pedals strapped all over him just running up & down the street. But you can't hear a thing he plays cause he's running around everywhere. What a dork.
Stratman, I'll have to check out that DRRI now. That's my kind of amp. I'm glad this thread is running! Keep 'em coming everyone! |

| I got a peavey classic 30 head and a 2*12. I also got a 73' Marshall plexi 50 head with a 4*12 and these played in stereo. And at least i use another marshall amp for the direct out from my DD-3 and use the delay in only one amp.. kind of funny.. |

Hard to choose...I recently bought a Victoria Regal; 15 watts class A(one 6L6 power tube) into a 15" Eminence. Sounds great turned up to 9, which works on gigs cause the amp is not really loud. I have a couple of Princeton Reverbs, an all-stock 1966 and a 1971 that's been modded with a blackface panel and a 12" Jensen. The '71 and the Regal are neck and neck for the "Desert Island Amp" vote. I also have a Holland Gibb Droll 2x10 for bigger gigs. It's chassis is a clone of a tweed Bassman; 50 watts into 2 10" Webers, can be super clean on the bright channel so I use the normal channel, occasionally jumping the two channels. Those would be my favorites. I have others, including a tweed Pro Junior, a tweed Blues Junior, a blonde DRRI, and a '72 Super Reverb that, frankly, if I sold 'em I wouldn't really miss 'em, at least not compared to the favorites mentioned above. |

i find this a very hard question as i have had lots of different amps in my time but the musicman has stayed now for over 20 years as its ultra reliable and it takes pedals great..... the marshall superbass is the 'new boy' and is bringing something new to the party..i normally run them in stereo off my ch1 and the only problem i have with the is the weight.. franzoni is still fairly fit(still playing div3 waterpolo and work in construction)but i have to admit i been playing with the idea of buying a couple of 25 watt rivera's for the portibility factor as well as the weight..... |

i just got a new amp! well i shouldnt say new, its twice as old as me. its a Silvertone 1420. i think it says 9 watts. it has a volume and tone knob. and an on/off switch. 2 inputs. and that it. pretty low tech. it sounds wonderful with effects. im using it in stereo with my big Kustom. but im using the Kustom for lower bass sounds and the Silvertone for the higher stuff. sounds awesome. |

| I really like my setup for guitar at the moment, it's a bit weird though - 100w Ashdown bass combo into a Crate 4x12". Strange but the sound I get is actually really amazing! |

Mine is the plain old JCM800 2203 head running through a Old 1960 300 Watt Cab (4 X GT12 Celestions)
Not much into the reissue, close but not the same in my opinion!!!!

Hi Guys On a similar subject. Has anyone bought or played the Epiphone Valve Jr. Amplifier?
It a very loud 5 Watt all valve amp with a solid state rectifier section, and is fitted with an 8 inch speaker, in a Combo Box or available as a Head. I have read glowing reviews of this amp, but you must get the version 2 of it as the first version had hum problems. They ran the 6VAC heater tracks on the PCB, right next to the LOW LEVEL signal tracks. This was fixed in the Version 2 amp, it has DC heaters as well now. If you look carefully you will see, that the front panel changed on the Ver2.
Apparently this amp loves a bit of modding, & pedals.
Here in the land of Oz, it retails for about $261.00 - cheaper than some pedals, even cheaper in the USA.
Here are some specs. I found while looking around.
Epiphone Valve Junior Tube Amplifier Head Features:
* 5W power (Louder than a 30 watt solid state amp!) * Single-ended Class A tube circuit * 12AX7 preamp tube * EL84 power amp tube * Tubes have DC filaments for reduced noise * Single chicken-head volume knob * 4, 8, 16 ohm outputs for speaker flexibility * Real tube amp sweetness, grind and scream! (just crank the volume for overdrive)
There are a couple of average clips, on www.youtube.com of this amp
Here are four links, so you can see what this amp is all about. http://www.harpamps.com/tubeamps/index.html http://www.imuso.co.uk/directory/reviews/equipment-reviews/epiphone-valve-junior.htm http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Valve-Junior-Tube-Amplifier-Head?sku=482069 http://www.zzounds.com/item--EPIEPABKJR

Dr. Bob, I have one of the combo versions of these amps, but I am not sure if I have version 1 or 2. What are the changes on the front panel? I thought I read that version 2 serial numbers start with 1205***, however, mine is 0305, and while there is some hum, its just about the normal hum I have heard with other tube amps, but then again this is my first tube amp....
I love this amp for its sound and simplicity, but was thinking of getting something with a 12" speaker, so I have become highly interested in possibly getting a Fender Blues Junior. Anyone have any thoughts on those amps?
