Hi everybody,
Just curious to know the Boss experts' opinions about this. I was wondering if it would be worthwile hunting down a DM-2. The thing is I allready have a DM-3. Well 2 actually, in case one breaks or something. I love the DM-3s to death, but I'm reading all these yowza reviews about the DM-2, I get this feeling I might be missing out on something. Is the DM-2 that much different of perhaps even better than a DM-3?
Oh, and as alittle intro to the forum: i'm not really a pedal collector, but rather keen on good tone and quality slapback delay. Can't live without it |

I never played a DM-2, but considering the description, DM-3 seems to be an improved version of it. Noise reduction, and so on.
Some may think a noisy delay is better. Make sense in a certain way.
I would say, if you're not into collecting, keep your DM-3s and spare 300$ |

I own both, and compared to the DM-3 the DM-2 sounds a little darker, but has a more "organic" sound if you know what I mean. The DM-3 has a bit longer delay at maximum setting. My personal favourite is the DM-2, altough the DM-3 sounds very good too and has a slightly cleaner sound due to a special noise reduction cirquit.
They are both expensive, but if you want the magic tone of the DM-2 and make a good investment try and find a "less expensive" DM-2 in good condition and make sure the pots hasnt been tampered with.

No, I don't know what you mean -- define the word "organic" with respect to audio.
This is the closest I can get (from dictionary.com):
7. characterized by the systematic arrangement of parts; organized; systematic: elements fitting together into a unified, organic whole.
8. of or pertaining to the basic constitution or structure of a thing; constitutional; structural: The flaws in your writing are too organic to be easily remedied. (Synonyms: inherent, fundamental, basic)

English is not my native language, so sometimes its hard to fully express my innermost thoughts the way I would like to. The DM-2 produces an "aura" around the sound which I, and others find very pleasing.
I am not sure I will be able to explain it. Maybe you should try and find a DM-2 yourself and find out... |

I have had a DM-3 since 1986(my first delay pedal), and in the last few years I've accumulated 3 nice DM-2s. I think I prefer the DM-2 because it sounds a little darker and doesn't quite have the clarity of a DM-3. However, FWIW I'm currently using a Keeley-modded DD-3 in my pedalboard for stage work. |

i was thinking of getting a analog delay for slapback sounds(i already have two dd3's on my 'board)and then i read an article about scotty moore elvis's orginal guitar player and it said he uses a dd3 these days instead of bringing his old amp with built in tape echo on the road anymore.... it also said he used a chorus pedal to give the effect of the tape getting old and 'chewed up'.......but then if you listen to eric johnson and the sounds he gets with analog delay....some other companies still make analog delays....eh and ibanez spring to mind ...maybe boss should release the dm-4.... |

Yes, I agree. Its not as "HiFi" as the DM-3, and adds a nice sort of reverb to the sound.
Translation for Stahlhart...Organic = Less sterile |
