I haven't heard nyquist's name since I was in university. I'm guessing Mully has a little (or a lot!) of engineering training...

Changing the bit depth also changes the dynamic range, and lowers the signal-to-noise ratio. Low bit depth gives distortion, plus less dynamic range - everything else being equal, the output sounds "compressed and grungy" with a lower bit depth compared to a higher bit depth.

hehe... I'm no engineer. Although I do record myself from time to time. I do however have had lots of spare time during my social works studies (which I finished this year with a paper on audio recording in social work centres) so I read a thing or two.

I just thought i would update you all on how i'm getting on with running the rack units with the pedalboard... i was nearly giving up on the XTpro the other day as it was causing a slight volume drop as zentropa experienced with his gear....but the options it was giving me as in easy routing and bypass for the dynacord, reverb, and the option of programming some delay patches(there is different sims for delay ..analog,tube echo, stereo delay, digital, multi head etc..) was worth perservering..i had the opportunity to run it in the effects loop of a marshall combo in the rehearshal room the other day with my normal pedals going into the input of the amp,the loop is parrallel so i was able to turn it off to hear the normal sound and up to hear how it sounded going through the processor,i was able to boost the volume of the processor so it matched the normal volume by using the built in compressor in the XT pro,it's based on a LA-2A studio compressor...?? anyway what i did was,i dialed the compression down to zero and used the volume to boost the signal until it was the same as the 'straight in' volume level.... it sounded pretty good,i went out to get a cup of tea and i heard the singer messing around with the guitar and pedals and from outside i thought it sounded great...... i think that part of the problem is the marshall superbass head is not clean enough for the effects and is colouring the sound too much..i'm going to have to find the time to strip the musicman combo and try to repair it soon.......or install an effects loop in the marshall.........

They say a picture tell a thousand words so.....

this is what i'm using now after the pedalboard as a way of incorparating the dynacord into my set up..the line 6 pod gives me a few different routing options plus and switchable stereo effects loop to keep the dynacord out of the way when i don't need it...the pod has a direct unprocessed out which i eventually plan to use to feed either the musicman or marshall amp and i'm hoping in the next few weeks to get a small power amp in the rack to power a couple of 1x12 cabs so i can have some of the pods effects and reverb in stereo and also the dynacord has a super stereo setting,so i'm looking foward to hearing what it sounds like...... if anyone has a FBV 4 (the older one for the XT series) that they might be interested in parting with, drop me a line......and to think this all started 'cause i was thinking of getting an RV-5 for a bit of reverb............

Hi FRANZONI

Laurie told me, he is going to sell his spare Long Board, that he has for his POD 2,
If that's the type you're looking for?

I can't honestly remember which of the Line 6 boards, plugs into what?
They have so many of them, In fact the latest version of the POD 2 will not work with the Older Long boards.

Nice pics BTW.
I must come hear you & the boys play one night...
Is that a home made rack case?

Regards Bob

thanks Doc....

yep line 6 caused a bit of confusion on this it seems....i have the FBV shortboard which is excellent ..the only thing is i already have a big boss pedalboard i'm using and the shortboard on top of this could be a bit much on the ground on gigs....ass well as the fact i don't like the volume/wah pedal as for some reason it can switch from volume to wah for no reason in the middle of a song..... the FBV 4 is the one for the XT series..but they have discontinued it and brought out the FBV express with the horrible volume/wah pedal......the FBV 4 as well as according to reports seemingly bulletproof also allows you to use the tap tempo function with the delays in the main unit so this would be very handy as well as giving me access to 4 programs at my foot....the is a FBV 2 which is basically and up/down switcher still available so worst case scenario i will get this....then i can have the effects loop on one program and off on another when i don't want the dynacord in the signal..i've been keping an eye on evilbay to no avail.......

the rack case is i think homemade ...it came with a secondhand power amp we bought for the main rig..it was lying in our storage shed in the singers old house that we still have access to..... grand for the moment.....

P.S any time your in dublin your more than welcome, bring laurie he knows his way around, and i will buy you all some of these.....
