Hi

Just got hold of a TS-9 with a missing label - anybody know how to date it?

The board says MP-D01201B and Maxxon KU

the 4558D chip has 2210 printed on it.

What is the easiest way to know if its a reissue pedal?

Cheers

Assuming the chip is original to the pedal, then it would date to around 1982.

If it was a reissue, it would have the TA75558 chip. Even if the chip has been changed, the Maxon board indicates a pre 2002 reissue. Seems more likely to me that it is a genuine original. Well done.

1993-96 reissues are quite hard to distinguish from the originals, especially if the label is missing. 1996-2002 reissues have "Maxon" pcb:s, but also a "CE" marking on the label. 2002-onwards reissues have "Ibanez" labeled pcb:s and battery covers.

One of the best ways to ID an original is to use your ears, albeit not in the fashion one would expect. Hold the pedal up by your ear, press the switch repeatedly and listen. Reissues will emit a distinct "click", while originals will have a springy tone or "boing" to them (you'll know it when you hear it ). Some of the latest reissues almost doesn't make any sound at all, which is also a dead giveaway.

As someone else said, if the op-amp is the one that came with the pedal, you have yourself a quite rare pedal. Most of the originals came with either the JRC2043D or TA75558P. Well done, indeed!

/Andreas
