G'day! Just looking at building myself a couple of FA-1 clones (one for each stereo channel). It's not much more setup to put a few extra ones together. The main components (FET and opamp) would be genuine NOS parts, so it would be a true clone but i would make it as a pedal not a belt-clip box (in a bigger box with a true-bypass footswitch and PSA power jack).
No promises I will actually have any for sale... I'm just seeing if anyone would be interested in one? I'm thinking it would be about $100 plus shipping (trust me - that won't make me a millionaire, it is just the component cost plus a little beer money for the effort).
To see the type of look and feel, see the SG-1 clone I made: http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4788
I'd do the FA-1 clones in a yellow box with yellow knobs...

| Tell ya what Laurie, if you could manage to house it in the shell of a cheap old Boss pedal, say DS-1, then I would be very interested. Very much indeed. |

Ah yeah... if only! I've been contemplating how to get some "boss shells"... but the only way seems to be to buy DS-1's and gut them. A bit expensive really - would put the price up to maybe $150 by the time you bought the DS-1 and added components for a flip-flop (can't do true bypass in a boss shell - nowhere to put the switch).

I've gutted a few Behringer cheapies for the cases. It's a bit of mucking around, but it can be done.

I think my SG-1 clone would turn up it's nose at a Behringer case |

| I have the spare DS-1 and could care less for true bypass. So if your up for it I'll ship you the pedal with money. |

Been thinking about this... I would need to add the FET bypass stuff to the circuit, and rearrange the circuit board layout to fit a Boss pedal shell... but I think it's pretty doable. An FA-1 in a DS-1 case... a "FADS-1"?
Anyway, I'm off on vacation for the next week - we can talk some more about this when I get back?

Well as vacations have it I'm off the week after yours so plenty of time to figure it all out. Plus your FA-1 for each stereo channel sounds very good, so possibly two FADS-1s for me. |

I've been thinking some more... (blast having brain that wont turn off...).
Anyway, if I can get the parts (jacks the right size and dual pots) there is probably just enough room in a standard pedal to put two FA-1 circuits... so *possibly*, a DS-1 could become a dual/stereo FA-1. Will have to do some measurements and give it some more thought, but it might actually be viable.

Holy watermelons Batman!
If that's the case maybe you could use a DD-6 shell, using the mode nob to switch between flat and low cut. |

The DS-1 shell would be the one I think... cheaper for a start, plus if it is true stereo, dual gang pots with a single knob would be fine. The switch would just become a DPDT toggle instead of a SPST toggle.

Yeah I agree. FADS-1 sounds better than FADD-16. |
