Ok so I see that many of you had similar ideas :) that's why it's cool to be in a such forum...
It's more than likely that the box design is patented. It's quite unique. Not retro, not outdated - always looks simple and modern. I like that they don't go too far out of the "classic" paint jobs and lettering. Time will tell but for me Boss CP design is the "Precision/Stratocaster" of the effect pedals.
I agree 100% on the design being equal in quality to that of the Precision/Stratocaster and yet I can't believe we haven't touched upon this before. (Some may have, but y'all know what I mean ) It is extremely rare that we see such timeless designs. Being from Denmark the PH lamps come to mind and those are from the 1920s.
Anyway, here we are 30+ later and the Boss pedals look every bit as modern as they did back in the day. The same goes for the font they use. The process behind the designs of the Leo Fender's instruments are well documented, does the same hold true for the Boss pedals?
I'm sure time will be the judge for that. Maybe effect pedals in general are still regarded as something too contemporary to be contemplated in the same way as musical instruments.
Glad you found the subject interesting - hopefully, someone will have further info on this.
