Around May 10-15 my girlfriend and I are traveling to Toronto, just wondering if any of you folks live around there and could recommend some good places to visit, maybe a guitar shop or two I should check out etc...
Thanks |

hey Dingus. check out Songbird music. all i know is that its in Toronto somewhere but the one in Ottawa usually has some pretty juicy new/used gear. and apparantly the one in Toronto blows Ottawas out of the water.

I used to live in Toronto. Songbird music is definitely the place to go for effects pedals. They usually have a good selection of used pedals. 12th fret is great for vintage guitars and amps. Steve's is right by downtown. The have all of your basic new gear. If you are looking for songbooks, Steve's has a great selection in the back. I would not expect to find any great prices at these places. There is usually some interesting gear to try out though.

Yup I live in Toronto. The above suggestions are good and the only thing I want to add is even though Songbird has a big variety of FX's their prices are jagged up a lot. If you want to check out small to medium size store try
http://www.ringmusic.com/contact.html (Ring Music) (It's near University of Toronto and Yorkville Shopping Area)
http://www.paulsboutique.ca/ (Paul's boutique) - It's right in the heart of Kensington Market near Chinatown and walking distance to Songbirds, Steves (Both on Queen Street) - if you can walk a bit try capsule http://www.capsulemusic.com/ (Also on Queen but a bit farther west)
HTH, Kel

| The whole Queen west area is great for vintage type shopping. Only one Starbucks in the whole area! And maybe an HMV |

Are all the church st pawnshops still there at Church and Queen East, a short walk east of Queen Station? I haven't been there since 2001 ...
MusicPlex in Brampton, is where I scored my boogie MKiV and cab for 1000.00
there's also a way cool vintage shop around 500 block of king st west downtown can't for the life of me remember its name, but I do recall them having older LesPauls, you know the faded sunbursts etc.
i remember ogling some 54 tele's at teh 12th fret on the danforth.
Steve's and Long & McQuade are chain stores; you may be able to find a sweet deal on some rental stock that they mayhave for sale, but otherwise no real deals. Songbird is a great store.
If you do go to any music store pickup all the local rags free in the doorway, and you'll find all the music store ads, Now magazine used to be an underground type thing for the arts, but now more mainstream etc. http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/current/ |

| The pawnshops on Church St were still there when I left in 2005. I never found anything good in these shops. I don't remember any stores on King St downtown? |
