It's clear that the earliest boxes had little thumb cut-outs on the bottom edge of the boxtop. When did this stop? Did it coincide with the change from silver- to black-screw (along with the end of stamped serials), or was it later?

Also, in terms of value, would an original box be worth more surrounding, say, an OD-1 (minty but 8-pin) OR a beat up momentary/clear switch/14-pin unit? I'm not planning on selling or moving (too many...) boxes around in my collection (except to keep things period accurate), but it is interesting to know what the market thinks of these things.

I think it changed with the screw. I two MIJ DS-1s one is a silver screw with thumb cut box. The other is April of 81 just after the screw switch, and it has a regular box top.

That does make sense.. but then my CE-2 box is actually for an SS pedal - now I need to get a nice SS CE-2 for that box!

Mesjoggah: just pair those two up until you get a nice blackscrew OD-1 to stick in the box. THEN find a thumb-hole box for the SS.
