Hey all, I was wondering if there is really much of a difference between MIT and MIJ digidal delays. I only have a MIT DD-6 and was wondering.
I assumed that since it was digital the sound would not be very different between MIT and MIJ but I'm open to other thoughts!

i have a made in japan DD-3 and a made in taiwan DD-6 and to be honest there's not much between them. the DD-3 sounds 'older' slightly warmer but the DD-6 still sounds great and clear but not brittle.
in a band situation there's no way anyone could tell.
i think this whole MIJ thing does have a fair point but it's been blown totally out of proportion. eBay prob has a lot to do with this. |

There is design differences among DD-3īs MIJ and MIT, Stinkfoot sorted that out in one topic some time ago, check this link http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/articles/DD3.htm Early DD-3īs sounds the same as DD-2īs, if I donīt remember wrong. DD-20 is MIT and to my ears sounds very, very good.

Thanks Goran I've looked at the DD-20 and looks great but a little big for my liking. I don't think the difference is that great. Then the other question is how it compares with analog delays! That's a whole new ball game!!! |

Analog delays sounds way darker than digital, if we are talking Boss. The good thing with analog is that the delay-tails thickens the tone in a way digital donīt do. Plus, for some reason, the tails doesnīt interrupt with the direct sound as much as digital do, this is good in my book! I like both types of delays, but as DM-2/3 are quite expensive due to collectors interest in them I would go for the digital if I was low on money. By the way, there ainīt no MIT analog delays
but there is a market for it for sure.

| I tried an MIT DD-3 and an MIJ DD-2. the DD-2 totally owned the DD-3 ( taiwan ) in terms of the quality of delay produced. the DD-2's delay is the closest analog tone you can get from a digital pedal. |

Yeah,
The early DD-3's had the long chip in them similar to rack gear. If I were a bettin man than I would bet the DD-3's from Japan sound better. |

Hey great tips guys!
Must keep an eye out for a DD-2 or early DD-3 that's not too expensive!

I'm a forum newbie but a longtime Boss afficionado and I've been grateful to find that my tonal suspicions regarding Boss digital delays have been 'validated' by consensus on this forum.
Specifically, I always felt that my 'long chip' MIJ DD-3 sounded grittier and more 'analog' than my mid-90's MIT DD-3. I used to have a DSD-2 and I stupidly sold it off; when I eventually 'replaced' it with the aformentioned MIT DD-3 I vividly remember being disappointed since it did not measure up to the old DSD-2. Both DD-3's, however, sound better than my DD-5. My DD-20 is on par tonally with the MIT DD-3, just above the DD-5. All this is just my opinion, of course.
I will agree that in a band situation the tonal differences are negligible between the models though. |

I own two DD-2 delays and just love their warm tone. I used to have a MIT DD-3 which just sounded boring compared to these two babies.
DD-2... |

Welcome hudpucker!
Great to hear some more detailed information. I had no idea it could be so different! Now that I know I can revise my wishlist! |
