Hey Gang, been a while. Well i sold my marshall dsl 50 and bought a peavey jsx and sold all of my pedals. I should have tried this before i sold my overdrives but.... I'm looking for a sound that i cannot achieve on this amp. I want a smooth warm "even" overdrive sound that i can use to add some slight "even" breakup on my clean channel. I've tried rolling the volume knob back on both the crunch and ultra channels. Now mind you the crunch channel is the one that his should work best on but it's not cutting it. Any suggestions? Rock On- Josh

Just putting on my flame retardant clothes...... but if you bought a Peavey JSX is it because your after the 'satch ' sound or is it just because it's a good amp...? Joe has a new overdrive pedal out as well,i think it's made by Vox.... the ones the two lads suggested are getting good reviews on the forum as well..and of coure the is always the old TS-9 etc.....i remember reading a interview with joe when he was still using Marshalls and he said he only used the clean channel on his Jubliee head and relied on the DS-1 for his distortion.....

OD-3 huh, Sounds COOL!!! I have never owned one of those.
Hey Franzoni, ha ha no i'm not a satch wannabe actually i bought the amp because it sounded so close to my old and sold peavey special 212 solid state amp. With the exception that this amp is all tube. I have heard of the vox pedal it sounds interesting but with the ultra channel i have all the distortion i need! :) Thanks for the suggestions guys keep em coming if there are any more!! Rock On, Josh

OD-3 Rulez!

I own it and I use it on my Marshall JCM900 all tubes!

I've suggested to my guitarist too.

Neaves:

i dig the jsx amp but agree it lacks that tweener sound. it's got super clean, heavy crunch, and over the top... but it doesn't have that magic spot between super clean and heavy crunch that most high gain tube amps have as their "clean." you probably won't be able to find it with the amp unless you dial the crunch channel way back gainwise... but imo, the crunch channel on those are what really shine.

out of the in production pedals, SD-1 and OD-3, with the wildcard being the OS-2. the SD-1 is smoother than the OD-3. the OD-3 is chunkier. if i had to make raw comparisons, if an SD-1 is a JCM800, an OD-3 is a plexi.

I would find an old MIJ SD-1... or buy a new modded SD-1 from Analog Man (keep the "boss-style" clipping).

Ok zentropa hit it on the head. He said jcm800 for the sd-1 which is what i'm looking for. There is a live version of a song from michael schenker called on and on it's on the unforgiven live double cd and the sound i'm looking for is from a jcm800. Rock On- Josh

Neaves:

the SD-1 is a lot smoother than the OD-3 and BD-2... the op amp characteristic is just like that. more fizz, less bite.

if you intend to run the gain low (which is all you should have to do) there shouldn't be any issues with em stock. if you end up running the gain above 12 o'clock you may need to look into a bleed fix mod unless you are running a true bypass looper.
