I acquired this pedal off of craigslist today, and I must say, IT'S A BEAST. It sounds like a Mesa Triple Rect on one end and like an Engl on the other, and that's running through my Peavey studio pro 112 @ 65 watts! It's loaded with an ECC83.
I was originally looking at the DISTX pedal, but are there any differences in gain between the 2nd channel of the Dual gain, and the gain of the Distx? or do they possess the same level of gain? Anyone else here own any pedals from Blackstar? |

| I also have the "dual". Since then I stopped using effects or echos. |

I love my distx it's a thing of beauty
I use it for pretty much any muse song, that kind of heavy distortion, but not processed and fake. You don't even need to crank the gain a lot, tweaking the EQ and the ISF can get a wide variety of sounds.
The only video of me using it is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to6AOeoK6qY
Sounds really good when I run my keeley compressor before it (got the keeley after the video btw)

Upon further testing, the volume knob of the clean/crunch channel of the HT dual gain didn't work at all, so I'm exchanging it for a distx from the same person It's supposed to have even more gain than the dual gain You have a great sound going with it too ollie |

That was using an OD-3 and Distx using my mates Marshall Mg15 (I use a fender 4x10 Deville, bit big for bandpractice) Fire this thing up infront of a tube amp and it sounds amazing :D
One thing
Someone a while back posted about a scratchy pot on the level knob, I too encountered this problem, it was cutting out when i touched the level knob. As of now, it's in repair with blackstar. I don't want to put you off the distx as its an amazing sounding pedal but I fear there may of been a dodgy batch.

That could've been the case too. I'll be making the swap for the DISTX tomorrow, so I'll find out if it's in fine order |

I'm thinking about getting the Dual now :P
My drive currently goes like this: Blackstar Distx<Marshall Shredmaster<Boss Od-3
Thinking of changing it to Blackstar Distx<Blackstar Dual<Maybe Laure's HZD
Think the Dual could knock of the mild drive and thick crunch of the OD-3 & Shredmaster |

Definatley get a HZD. It sounds sooo smooth. I've read a lot of good things about the dual. Except the fact that in Australia they retail for $350! Where can I get them cheaper?
At the moment im using HZD > mij SD1 > mij DS1. . The sd1 & the ds1 are just too harsh for me, im looking for something a lot smoother. So far the dual looks like a winner for me. I've seen lots of great clips on youtube.
Btw nice vid ollie |

thanks mate it's a bit old and I wasn't playing it right but for a first vid we were pretty proud of it. The Distx is great for smooth leads and is a great high gain pedal. For milder sounds and marshall crunch I think the Dual is the way to go. I'm just worried about one thing if i got the dual:
If I have two blackstar pedals, I'll be using two 16v AC power supplies. Is there some sort of daisy chain I could use for the two?
I run all my pedals on a normal 9V daisy chain and use the Blackstar adaptor, but if I have two blackstar pedals do I need the two adaptors?
Sorry for being a bit off topic |

Dunno....i reckon with two valve pedals you would be better keeping them seperate as not to risk starving the valve inside..i could be wrong as i've never had two tube pedals on a pedalboard... ...i built a plugboard into my pedalboard with a kettle socket on the end so my adapters are plugged in all the time and when i get to a gig i just have to plug in a normal 3 pin power lead and i'm good to go...saves the leads from the adapters from getting stretched off the pedalboard across the stage and getting damaged...

This an old pic and some of the pedals have changed,i hvae the HZD in place of the CS-3 and the top row has the DD-3's and the TR-2 with the CE-2 after the twin tube and the LS-2 at the end....the kettle socket can be got from maplins for a few quid and it's the same as wiring a 3 pin plug except you need to solder the wires onto the lugs inside... |

That was me. I sold it on ebay and by the time it got to the buyer the level knob was scratchy and cutting out. In retrospect I never should have sold it as I lost a lot of money and it was a big hassle, then the buyer promised to leave positive feedback and never followed through.
I used the pedal in front of my clean channel on my Peavey XXX. Then I changed from 6L6s to KT77s and liked that sound better, just plugging straight in.
Another reason I wish I didn't sell it: I bet it would have sounded killer in front of my 22 Caliber.

Funnily enough, my dad came home today with my repaired distx.
The service note said they repaired the pot pcb.

Just got my DISTX, and I must say I like it, it seems to have a little more gain than the Dual |

Best part is, I paid $230 Aus for it, and it has a $450 Aus price tag on it!
