The best I can come up with is that after a certain point (maybe 1982 with the OC-2?) Boss determined that all their compact pedals should begin with a -2 designation. Hence the DD-2, or XT-2, RC-2, PS-2. The DS-1, OD-1, SP-1, SG-1, PH-1, CS-1 were all released before this date. Not sure of there reasoning.
The lack of -4 is easily explained. 4 is considered an unlucky number in asian cultures, so it is skipped, like some Western buildings pretend there is no 13th floor (after 12 they go straight to 14). Somehow the PQ-4 was released - the 4 probably representing 4 bands (like GE-6 or GE-7 represent the number of bands on those units). |
