Why did Boss manufacture pedals in Japan long after the move to Taiwan? One explanation could be that new models would be test manufactured in Japan, but for some it was for a long time. That the more complicated pedals should have been manufactured I Japan doesnt hold up, or. Some models made in Japan for the Japaneese market only?? If I not remember wrong there are no MIT DC-2 and DC-3, why?? Has there been parallel manufacturing of any compact in Japan & Taiwan, at he same time?
It's hard to say but for several years it is clear that Boss must have had manufacturing capabilities in both countries. The first pedals to move to Taiwan was the long runners like the SD-1, DS-1, CE-2 and CE-3. It took at least 2-3 more years before pedals like the DD-3 and PS-2 moved over.
My guess is that they moved over the pedals that they were sure would not need any modifications. If a pedal is new there might sometimes be reliability problems or other issues that forces teh engineers to start working on it again. In those cases it must be an advantage if manufacturing is close by.
The DD-3 had already been in production for a while but Boss may already have had the DD-3A plans ready and wanted to get it ready before moving production.
My growing spreadsheet with hundreds of serial numbers shows no simultaneous production in Taiwan and Japan of any models.
ya i would say that when they moved to Taiwan, they started making all the new pedals there, but all the ones that were already in production were made in Japan until they were discontinued.
