..poor Jimi...exploited in life and death...don't get me wrong I think it's great for those who haven't been exposed to Jimi's music beyond the hits...but every thing released since his family took over (Experience Hendrix & Dagger Records) had already been released by Alan Douglas in one form or another...it's really gotten outta control since his father passed away...I mean Dagger Rec. released his last show at the Isle of Fehmarn as an offical release ...sound like the source tape was recorded from 100yrds away in the rain on a handheld!!!...I really believe his family couldn't give two shits about the man and his legacy...they just want to reap the benefits of his talent ...swine! |

I also dislike the business side of Experience Hendrix, but as a great longtime fan of Hendrix I was glad for the new Neptune. But its not a great Hendrix album by any standard, some really great tracks and the rest are interesting. So I suppose this is a record for us who have the most of the musts with Hendrix, not for the beginner.

I bought the CD yesterday and as a great admirer of Hendrix I really like the album, but at the same time its a bit sad that they release new versions of old songs. But Red House and Hear my train comimg are just fantastic. The totally new songs are few an Valleys of Neptune is by far the best one. For me this was the first full priced CD I bought in a long time, a must for every Hendrix fan of course. But buy the original albums first if you dont have any by Hendrix.

I was listening to 'valleys of neptune' and it sounds like they faded out the end just when it was getting interesting and some jamming was about to start...probably will release the jam seperately and cash in on that futher on down the line.. .sorry to be negative but i'm with the Brut on this one... i read a few bios of Hendrix and his family especially his father and his step family didn't come across as particularly nice people when it came to his musicial legacy and his place in rock and popular history..thay all seemed more interested getting their hands on the cash...and some of them still are doing anything to exploit his name for their own ends...so as much as i love Hendrix and i enjoy any 'new' stuff to emerge i treat it with a touch of skepticism if his 'heirs' have anything to do with it...anyone remember the Gibson Hendrix 'strat' last year.....?....... |

Sadly enough, I do. I haven't bought the CD myself, I was just wondering whether others liked it or not. |

it all good though gentlemen!!!...in the next few months they're gonna release a filmed show from the February 24, 1969 at the Royal Albert Hall!!! (they released the ST a few months ago)...a good buddy of mine somehow came across a bootleg of the vid years ago...I was pretty young at the time and there wasn't an internet yet so it was one of my first impressions of the living Hendrix...not covers/posteres/ect....left a helluva impression on me...he was def. on fire that night ...i've read so many books on Jimi's life & music that at this point the hero worship I had for him most of my life as evaporated into sadness for a really good guy,and bitchin guitar player, who was used in life and continues to be exploited to this day 40 years after his death...one of the biggest losses music has ever had!!! |

Ordered it yesterday and I'm a complete Hendrix nut I'll let you know what I think - must admit though I'm pretty excited about it - hope I'm not disappointed.
Updated (27/3/10).
CD arrived and I am certainly not disappointed. Like others have said it's 'interesting' rather than anything radically new. Thoughts:-
- like Goran, I thought Red House and Hear My Train A Coming are superb - as always with Hendrix - some great guitar tones on there that just make me weep - shows off his voice well in some songs - it's well mastered and balanced - a pleasing production - a funkier take in parts - check out Ships Passing Through the Night (I like this track and can hear a bit of Satch in there at times!) - glad Sunshine of Your Love is on there - a great cover that I'd listen to any time
Overall, an album that I'm happy to add to my Hendrix collection. |
