| Many of you guys list the MT-2 but I rather found it to be an articulate & well defined distortion sound with the bonus of the parametric mids. For me, it has a "clean" quality to its tone. |

I have to agree it is one of boss's most popular pedals |

| I haven't tried one that I hated endlessly, but if I had to choose I would say the PH-2. That thing is the most lifeless phaser on the planet. |

I wanted to be one, but just couldn't. Need to find a smoking deal for that sucker. Did not like anything I heard out of it. Stereo chain is the only plus.
I think the acoustic sims suck as well! |

Hey Goran, funny avatar. Actually I really had a little kind of fly inside my screen a year ago or so and it did move, glad it also disapeared and did not die there.

Agreed, I seen it, thought it was a real bug and tried to smash it.
Me too - Goran - you owe me a new monitor |

Absolutely NONE!!
I can find a use for all pedals. When I do not get the sound I want I can usually solve it with another pedal.
I know most of the compacts apart from the ones which came out a few years ago.
I do feel the sound of all the overdrives and dist. pedals can be created from almost just one pedal with the use of an EQ and maybe a Sansamp. Okay this will take quite a bit of tweaking but you will get close. When I did get an MT-2 I tried it against an HM-2, and could get the MT-2 to act as an HM-2. The other way around is harder and takes more tweaking. Done similar tests for DS-1, DS-2, BD-2, SD-1 and 2.
Personally I think it is a bonus if you have a large arsenal of pedals with which you can create many many sounds for in the studio, or on-stage.
Add to the pedals a huge arsenal of amps and guitars, drummachines and your choises are infinite no matter what the musical fashion is of the moment.

SD-1
Well, on the other side I´m glad someone said it, it´s a true Boss classic but I never liked it very much, and I have had it since the early 80´s.
I hated mine as it had far too much bass roll-off (maybe the MIJs are much better, but my MIT was disappointing to say the least) but I do at least understand why people might like that kind of sound - I imagine if you play through a huge roaring Marshall stack, lack of bass is never going to be a problem: I play through a small but very clean and poky 1x12" combo (Session Sessionette) and a 2x12" cleanish 70's valve Peavey combo, neither of which liked the SD-1
I think if worst means most disappointing - You know, you read personal recommendations on Bossarea about a pedal, buy one online without trying it then think - It's got to be the TW-1: I bought one for quite a few £££, and was not AT ALL impressed.
What about using SD-1 in combination with a GE-7 or GE-6?
I use four Marshalls, two of them have not much bass at all, the GE-6 gives them so much more bass and body.
SD-1 should be nice to get that midrange Marshall tone and with the EQ you should be able to get the right amount of bass. Keep your amps at a neutral setting. Maybe you do not like tweaking who knows?? |

I also have to disagree. I can seem to get good sounds from this pedal, mode 1 has a similar sound to the phase 90 and mode 2 has more depth and is so funky. May not be the right pedal to use in a band situation but is a fun pedal to mess around with. |

Indeed, PH-2 is one those phasers with its own sound. Phasers fall ito that category: You either have the vintage sounding ones which tend to be open and lush, or you get the more focussed ones with a more penetrating sound. The Ibanez from the 9 series is a similar one, a very distictive sounding phaser and probably not good when you are looking for a vintage vibe. |

Maybe because it is a TOOL rather than an EFFECT. |
