I recently bought a DD-5, and it arrived with an issue.
I'm not getting anything out of the mono output jack. The panning jack seems to be working as it should, as does everything else with the pedal.
I noticed that when I plug into the pedal (which I've got running on batteries right now, though I've tried it with my Pedal Power also), I can hear the direct sound through the mono out for a split second, but then it goes away.
I've opened it up, and nothing seems to pop out as being wrong, but I'm not sure what to look for other than loose components or burnt out parts.
Any ideas?
Thanks! lee |

| Not to worry lwatford, there are people on this site that can help. It's not me, this time, I am afraid. In the mean time let me welcome you to the forum. |

Hi lwatford & guys
Did you get it from a dealer, or from something like evilbay? DD-5... maybe it's still under warranty?
Did you try it out with another guitar lead? Sometimes some older leads don't make contact correctly, or go into the socket deep enough.
And look inside the socket to see if any of the contacts have been damaged or bent. Use the other working output, to compare it with.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!
I tried something else this morning and it might be helpful in diagnosing the problem. With the output jacks out of the case and not grounded, I can hear the correct mono signal under the hum. As soon as I ground the jack though, I'm back to having nothing out of the mono jack, and the panning out working fine.
Any ideas? |

| What kind of jack do I need to order? I think that might be all that is wrong (hopefully). I noticed that the switching side (?) of the jack isn't sending a signal to the panning out like it looks like it should on the schematic. |

Hi lwatford
Under the Hum??? What type of power supply are you using? PSA - ACA - generic brand?
Even though it will eat batteries, and just for a quick test, does it work with a new 9V battery?
I believe the DD-5 uses a PSA 9V adapter, & the PSA is fully regulated with a LM7809 3pin voltage regulator. You shouldn't be getting any hum, as the LM7809 has better than a -100dB noise figure.
You never mentioned if it was still possibly under warranty.. Or if you got it S/hand off evilBay.

No warranty I'm afraid. I got it in a trade on another forum. I'm just trying to see if it's an easy fix before we work out what to do (I really love these things, this will be the fourth one I've owned).

I had pulled the output board out of the case and put everything else back in to ground them. If I leave the output board ungrounded, then it hums, but it seems to have the correct delay signal at each jack(just buried under the hum from being ungrounded). As soon as I ground the board (via an alligator clip from the ground of the board to the case), I'm back to where I was before. Output is fine on the panning jack, and there is nothing on the mono jack.
I even tried a different jack, getting the signal directly off the main board and got the same result as soon as I grounded it.

I'm just using a 9v for now, I've been a little scared to have it plugged into the wall while I've had it open. I haven't had a chance to pull out my pedal power 2 yet, I'll try it today and see if it makes a difference. When it first arrived, I tried it with a 9v, and an PSA adapter that I've used with other DD5's with no problem.
Thanks again! lee

| So I swapped the signals going to each jack and got the same results. I could hear the delay as long as I left the jack ungrounded, but as soon as I ground it, I get nothing from the pedal. |
