They can be a major pain to keep running properly. If you gig regularly you need to replace tapes at least once a year.
For my gigging needs, if I had to have that sound(minus the hiss) I'd just use an RE-20. Sounds about the same tonally but without the tape hiss.
Personally I'm more than satisfied with a DM-2.
