| Firstly, does it have a smooth sine or sharper triangle wave? I assume it's traingle on the far left and that when you crank it toward square wave, it smooths out? Or does it become more of a sawtooth wave? |

| I was curious about this myself. Does anyone know if it's a sine / sawtooth wave in the middle position? |

| I find the triangle (fully counterclockwise) smoother sounding than the square wave, that one seems to chop more. |

Someone with a scope might tell us.
I'd like to know as well. |

So what's the answer? I don't have a TR-2 to check :D I'm going to see if there are any demo's out there.
EDIT: still difficult to tell... it does sound like it's got a slightly smoother sine wave sound, less sharp than a triangle wave even in the fully counter-clockwise position, but it's pretty hard to tell with youtube demo's etc. But even if that is the case, when you turn it do you get a sawtooth shape?!? |

Ah...sorry....wasn't being smart i assumed you had one and were just looking for for more tech details on it....... .i'm not into scopes and checking stuff like this out, with me and pedals if it sounds good thats enough... I think Dirk hit the nail on the head with his post..anti-clockwise gives a more Fendery/older 60's sound to the TR-2 and after 12 o'clock it progresses to a more aggresive tremolo tone...choppy is a good way to describe it...i'm not sure if you familiar with old amps but the tremolo in the 70's musicman amp is like this...i normally leave the TR-2 wave control at 12 0'clock and the rate and depth a little over this for a fender/ry cooder/magnatone type blues tremolo sound.... one of my favourite boss pedals.... |

I came up with that using my ears
Actually, I don't have the TR-2, I use the Behringer ultra tremolo version, but it's very similar and pretty good for home use. |

| I think fender tremolos where sine rather than triangle waves and from what i've gathered here and elsewhere it looks like the TR-2 offers that somewhere along the way. FWIW sine and triangle are practically the same, but sine simply has smoother peaks/troughs than a sharp triangle wave. Square waves are 'choppy' by nature as since the wave is a sqaure shape it's literally turning your volume on/off at abrupt right angles. I've gone through a lot of tremolo pedals, but I kind of like the trem sound on my Fender Super Champ XD amp but there's no info on what shape wave it is. Comparing it to my Demeter Tremulator pedal it sounds like a sine wave. If the quality of the Boss is up to scratch I'd seriously consider changing from the pricey boutique tremulator to the TR-2! |

Just got one on ebay today! And the wave shape is (most likely) smooth sine wave. If you slow it right down you can hear the wave shape when you roll the shape clockwise toward the centre position, where it goes through a sawtooth shape (slow rise, fast drop) beyond that, toward full-on square wave...I forget!

It is very nice indeed. I am considering forking out for the Monte Allums mod however. Which here in the UK I can get done for 42...even though I paid a little less than that for the pedal itself |
