does the EH-2 add a dab of compression? i used it the other day with my dist channel and it seemed to give a wonderfully smooth compressed tone. really even sounding. or is this it evening out the frequency components?

i dont think its compression.. or even a boost. it claims to restore lost high end on long chains, but i think thats bs because even when i use only an EH-2 with one other pedal it adds the same amount of high end. its almost like a parametric EQ with no boost.

It does restore high end. It's just not that noticeable unless you've been running it for a while and get used to it... Then turn it off or take it out of your chain and you'll most likely notice that it's not there. If it didn't do anything at all, there wouldn't be much of a market for it, new or used.

i wouldnt say that it "restores" high end as much as it just adds some. to me when i heard that it "restored" high end, i always thought that it magically brought back the lost high end, but really it just adds its own. kinda like a slight EQ with treble set high. still my favorite pedal though. |

Well, to "restore" the original high end of the signal it would most likely have to be some magical true bypass box that turned everything in between it and the guitar into true bypass switching pedals, which is pretty unrealistic. I mean, the name "Enhancer" pretty much says it all to me. It is a great pedal if you have space for it on your board, that's for sure.

It's really a semantic point, though, about "restore". I agree in principle with boss freak on this -- no, it doesn't magically put back any of the original high-end content lost in the signal chain, but it does "restore" it through the generation of artificial higher frequency harmonic content from what original signal remains. Apart from perhaps some quiescent circuit noise, there really isn't that much difference.

There is a fair market for the Spectrum on the used front though, isn't there? I just wish the people that have them stuffed in boxes in their garage or their attic would realize they need to sell them.

Well, SP-1. A couple of days ago I picked my first SP-1 out, it has been archived for a couple of years as I didnt like it too much back then. But to my big surprise I really liked the sound produced by it, great for cutting a dense mix. It slightly boost the signal too. So SP-1 is not at all a bad pedal. OK, its limited and you can get about the same sound with a wah.wah in a fixed position. At the same time I tried SG-1, but that is not a very usable pedal, you can do the same with the guitars volume. EH-2 is one of my favourites anyway, it does something nice even when used alone. But what it does Im not sure of.
