Very simple. Do you buy your pedals to put them in you pedalboard for their sound or to put them on display for your collection? (Or do you buy the Holy Grail and still put them in your pedalboard )
Myself, I am a player. I don't mind about MIJ/MIT versions or silver srews, I just want my pedals to sound good. Well, for now anyway. Maybe, if I stick around long enough on Bossarea, I might get infected with the collecting-virsus . |

I would say I am both a player and collector. There are several reasons I collect Boss compact pedals, and one of them is that they sound good.
What is fun about Boss aswell is that they have not altered the design through the years, but kept the same chassis. And its the ultimate compact pedal design in many respects in my opinion. As a pedal user, I use Boss exclusively. |

Both, but I do admit I buy pedals that I don't need and will never end up on my pedalboard. I've got about 65 Boss pedals so far and it seems silly to stop collecting the rest now that there so few left.
Sometimes I buy different versions of the same pedal but that mostly because I want to compare their sounds and form an opinon on which one is the best. Not sure what will happen when I have one of each model. Maybe I'll start looking for models with different labels etc. |

I consider myself a player, mainly because I don't have the $$$ to be a serious collector. (the guy in 'The Boss Book' has nothing to fear from me!)
that said, I do have some 40 different Boss pedals now, plus a Boss tuner and 4 of their 1/2 rack units, and like Bossarea I rarely use some of them. I try to keep my eyes peeled for a bargain price on something cool or different. and although I'm not anal-retentive when it comes to condition, it's always disappointing when I get a used pedal in the mail that looks like it had previously been dragged behind a semi truck for 1000 miles. sometimes you get what you pay for.... |

I suppose I�m a little more of a collector than user as I mostly don�t use more than one or two pedals when playing with others. I love the sound of a good tube-amp just above the cooking point and to save my ears (and others) I usually put a BD-2 in the chain to make the "cooking" at lesser volumes.
But when I play more experimental music I normally use lots of pedals, that�s the funny side of collecting, you can have a nice palette of sounds at your feet. Just a little hard to choose.... but I can live with that... |

Both user and collector for me. It starts as collection (I buy some pedals that look nice and that have a certain value), but I always try them in my pedal board and use them a while.
That's what I did with the FT-2. I first bought it without any will to be using it, as I already had a AW-3 and was happy with it, and mainly because I could find one for a really low price (considering that it is a quite sought after pedal). Finally I added it to my pedal board and use it frequently now, alternating betwwen the two different wahs. |

Mainly user, and I start using more and more pedals. It really takes a lot of skill and planning to see what a certain pedalcombination can do to your sound, and the possiblities are endless.
I do experiment a lot, and I am also interested in buying different versions of the same pedal just to see how they differ. All along the way you do learn a lot about what works and what not, and what are really good pedals and what not.
I am also interested in getting to know why people rave [or detest] certain pedals. Sometimes I share their views, sometimes it is the other way: I like what some may dislike.
Pedals are fun that is for sure, and they can add a whole new dimension to your playing.
I am into all kinds of music, love just playing solo acoustic with nothing in between me than just the six strings and the wood of the guitar, but on the other hand I also love to be emerged by wires and pedals around me and my amps. It is all the same thing really: Tools which inspire you to create music, and anything which inspires me to create I will dig!! |

| Oooh, a jamweekend. Should be fun (but practically very difficult to organise I guess) I know in Holland they sometimes organise a 'pedalday' of all different brands. I never went there (yet). |

More of a player than a collector myself.
I tend to find myself wanting pedals for what I think they can do for my sound rather than what they acutally do.
(hey I'm touch typing)... sorry off topic
I have only about 9 pedals in my collection but thats mostly due to being still quite new to the Guitar world (3 years).
I own a DD-3 a CE-5 and flanger but really dont know how to use any of them. I figure one day soon I will so I better buy them now whilst I can afford them. (Blasted Kids)
A Bossarea Jam would be cool only if it would provide me with a hands on area in which to bleed peoples minds for info.

| I'm a player and a collector. Eight of the nine pedals on my gigging pedal board are Boss pedals (some stock, some modified). I've been actively seeking out and obtaining Boss pedals for years and have managed to get my hands on a lot of great stuff such as the Infamous Trinity (SP1, SG1, VB2) and even the variations on the OC2, DF2 and DC3. Some of the pedals I have, I've used (or will use) in the studio, but would probably never use them in a gigging situation, unless I were in a super arena rock band that had techs working in several areas that could ensure that my precious rarities were safe and sound! ;) Others which are collectable, but not extremely rare, are on my board from time to time, but it can be a bit of a worry sometimes too. |
