My much modified MT-2 still wasn't quite right after about 6 months of tinkering. After fiddling some more, I struck gold! I can recommend this mod for the MT-2 - it sounds really, really good to my ear. I've probably been through 30 variations to find this one...
I'm calling it the "Stormchaser" mod and it includes: - signal path cap replacement - broadening the parametric EQ (but not too much) - removing the oscillators to clean up the crappy stock mids - MOSFET clippers plus a bunch of associated tone shaping to give a broad, graceful, sophisticated distortion. This is the heart of the mod.
It sounds fantastic through my Fender combo, Marshall stack, and Peavey combo.
I don't want to give this away to the entire internet but happy to share with fellow members - please PM me if interested in the details...
Acknowledgements: - MoonWatcher for suggesting and experimenting with the MOSFETs. - All the previous stuff published about broadening the parametric EQ and removing the oscillators.

Tantalum is pretty cold sounding IMHO. I'd say if you can't find an alternative, leave the 1uF electrolytics in place.

Thanks Laurie, I may leave the electro for a while. Right now i'm using stock MT2 pair with DOD FX40 equalizer to get much tone i like. Meaning this mod i may not need anymore to bring alone my equalizer to lessen my heavy bag load of pedals when going to gig? would appreciate you comment on this.
Again thanks, Roger |

Tone is so subjective it's hard to tell whether you will even like the mod. I guess just try it and see? It's a non-destructive mod (no drilling or cutting) so if it sounds bad, you can easily change it back |

| UPDATE: just tried this with my PRS into the Fender and it sounds great. Maybe a shade dark, but that's the way I like it. |

The amplifier around IC3a seems to have a very wide frequency response. Reducing C30 to 1uF and increasing C28 to 220p may smooth the higher frequencies and lower the bass before the clipping. Here is what I mean:

Worth trying C30 = 1uF too! |

UPDATE: tried it with the PRS and strat into the Marshall JCM last night. I know I'm emotionally attached, but I really like it... |

FYI - I found an error in the original description of the mod posted here. If you have the PDF version that I've emailed you, it is correct. If you have a copy of the old posting here, it contains the error.
