Yep. Its thin.

It responds better to humbuckers than single coils though...

I ended up doing this to fatten it up:

Sorry for spamming but it really is that good

imo, it depends a lot on the era of SD-1.

the newer ones do sound fairly thin stock, but then again, so does a newer DS-1.

the older ACA-styled and MIJ SD-1's have a lot more low end (this might be due to component age). i've had 6 MIJ SD-1's and only 1 was thin but it was due for a recap.

it is voiced for humbuckers but there's tons of SD-1 mods out there. my favorite personally is the full drive 2 conversion, which increases its gain potential and adds a good bit of low end and chunk.

I am using single coils. it's an inexpensive pedal, i play it and it is asking for a mod. i am looking for something that adds clarity and some bass to the pedal. it has enough grit for me

the clarity parts of the keeley mods are pretty well documented. i believe overdrive spider has it posted.

it's mostly upgrading caps from electrolytic to metal film and maybe 2-3 value changes.

the thing i don't like about the jrc4558DD op amp is that it is lacking in "bite" sometimes... just not a pronounced enough attack. i've found switching the clipping diodes to rectifier diodes helps with this a lot, but also changes the flavor of the gain to a bit more tube-like.

my favorite swap involves changing out the clipping diodes to something with a touch more chunk but then switching to a lower gain op amp as this seems to keep the gain potential about the same but increases the transparency and bite.

My $0.02 zerksies is to send it to Analog Man or Laurie (nice work BTW, I'd prob find a way to blow up my house if I picked up a soldering iron).

I have the Analog Man SD-1 TS-808/Silver mod w/ symmetrical/asymmetrical clipping, which basically took a pedal from living in my drawer to the one pedal I cant live without.

Also based on my name, you may have guessed that I use single coils but they are the stacked ones found on the stock G&L Legacy specials.

i can get the caps at radio shack for the keeley mod, but i can get close with the resistors. i can get 2.2 instead of a 2.4 and i can get a 680k instead of a 620k would that do any damage or should i order the parts from mouser or digikey. or anybody got parts to sell me?

having slightly off resistor values shouldn't damage the pedal.

i most likely have all of the caps/resistors/diodes laying around if you need anything or want to send me a list. i don't know if i'll have all of it, but i have a case full of most of the common mod part values.
i know i for sure have 2.4k and 620k resistors.

my pricing is here and quite a bit cheaper than radio shack.
