What it says in the topic title.

Which boss pedal is the easiest to mod?

Please answer which pedal, and which mod you think is easiest.

Links would be nice too....

SD-1... "symmetric clipping mod".

Simplest form: remove D5 and replace with a wire link

More complex: drill a hole in the case and solder a wire to either end of D5 and run the two wires to the terminals of a SPST switch mounted in the hole.

This mod doesn't make a huge difference to the sound, but it certainly is simple

Thanks. That does sound simple. OK.

What is the simplest pedal to mod, that is actually worth doing? And which mod would you be installing?

What I'm actually trying to gauge is a good starting point. I now have a nice solder iron, so I need some practice before I install the 'Storm Chase' mod in my MT-2... I don't want to brick the MT-2 as I like it!

A different way to approach this might be to do small pieces of a much larger mod. I know you have the parts for the Stormchaser mod, so let's look at that. The latest instructions are here:
http://members.shaw.ca/lauriepedals/Stormchaser.pdf

Do just one step - that keeps it simple and will make an audible change to the pedal.

The simplest thing to do is step #1. Try that, and see how it sounds.

Next, try step #5. Try the EQ before step #5, then try it again after - you will be surprised at the difference this one component change makes.

If you are still game, try step #4.

I'd agree with Laurie, the SD-1 is a good place to start. The "one step at a time" approach on the MT-2 is also a good suggestion, by increasing your confidence with building a small bit of the mod at a time. It will also help you understand what changes effect what part of the sound, rather than a huge blanket change in tone.

That was my take with it also, even though I started out with the MT-2 diezner mod.

I hope I am not telling granny to how to suck eggs, but a good solder sucker and/or some solder wick is pretty useful to have around to. Also always use a little solder to help melt the joints on the parts you are removing.

Actually the easiest is the volume mod for the tr-2. just lower the value of R9 and you have it, no volume loss at all
