I have to trust somebody to save my future and that is why I am trusting you now I want you to understand my critical situation and give me the love and assistance that I need, so that I will have a better life and also enjoy my inheritance with you. Yeah dude, just got the same email. I forwarded it to the site admins just a minute ago. I would guess that either the Boss Area Forum got hacked or they are selling email addresses on the sly.
Luckily, this is mostly just a pain in the ass being that there's very little critical personal info being traded on here.
Holler at the admins and tell them you'll boycott the site if they don't sort it out.
Updates welcome if you learn more. |

Boycott what site... bossarea..?... no way i'm boycotting this site because some scam artist sent a few emails that got through the net.....the admin on this site are excellent and very fair and even handed compared to other forums i've been on and do a very good job IMHO...Personally i don't think it's a big deal unless your stupid enough to reply to these people...C'mon.. ...$7.5 million in a bank account in the ivory coast and her evil uncles are out to get their mitts on the money... sounds like the storyline out of a pantomine........ |

This spam crap happens everywhere, but it happens less often here and it is ALWAYS dealt with.
As for the allegation that personal information is being sold, that's absurd. |

Eh, I doubt the admins are selling our contact info. More than likely some shithead got at the data and started spamming us.
I only posted this so some of the folks on the board could be aware of it. |

I have gotten a bit more spam emails on my address associated with this forum that seem to be UK-based. However, I also subscribe to a newsletter from Page3.com, so maybe its all their fault...
...and they need a spanking... |

Who did you forward the e-mail to? I didn't get it. I'd appreciate it if you'd contact one of the admins before you start making wild accusations.
The forum has not been hacked and we're not selling e-mail addresses to anybody. The spammer simply generated an account on the forum and he's then able to e-mail every other user who's got the "Allow forum members to send you e-mail" feature enabled. You can turn this feature on or off in your user profile. By default the setting is on.
It is currently difficult to stop this sort of spam. Rita39 has been banned but the spammer can potentially generate another account tomorrow and start spamming again.
Dr.Bob and DeFrag are working very hard to cut down on spam and are disabling users on a daily basis (Big Thanks). Unfortunately a few spammers are able to send off a few messages before we catch them and it's practically impossible to protect ourselves completely.
If you do get bossarea related spam, please notify me, Dr.Bob or DeFrag and we'll nuke the culprit before the can do any more harm. |
