Check out this:

http://www.sobstrings.biz/articles_dean.htm

There are tons of really good information of strings and related things, why did Hendrix, Clapton etc sound the way they did??
This is a must read for every guitarist, bookmark, print or do what you want, but read it all! Originally published in Vintage Guitar Magazine.
I have read this serie of articles many times during the last years and there is always something "new" every time.

HI Goran,

Yep some interesting articles here inlcuding some issues we have discussed ourselves here as well.

There is a lot of material in here which we could discuss about.

Have you read the bit about Hendrix and using a Tele for "Purple Haze"?

That's an awesome read, ty for that link bro! I've always been fiddling with strings, started out with the .008-.038's initially 30 odd years ago. After all those years I've settled on .009-.046 and have intoned all axes to that gauge. I've got pretty weak fingers but at least the heavier bottoms give me a bit of heaviness. My fav read elsewhere was about Gary Moore using banjo strings initially at a similar guitar gauge of 12's so he basically could bend them later over the fretboard. No wonder he has such a wicked vibrato.

With my floyded guitars if I go past the hybrid (9-46) they tend to pull the bridge too far forward and I have to compensate too much with the springs with keeping it body flat incase of breakage. I can only get one gig out of a set anyway so I guess I hit pretty hard myself, but there's no way I could slur a 10 or 11 without taking out a slice of finger pad lol.
