This is the second pedal base I've resprayed (last one was a DD-3). The base on this one was beaten to hell, and I'm pretty pleased with how the respray came out... (just the base was resprayed, not the treadle).

The trick is to use a white base coat then a light top coat of the metallic pearl colour.

So I have a question... what do you think a respray of the base like this does to the value of the pedal? Lowers it because it's not "original" and the colours aren't an exaclty perfect match, raises it because it doesn't look like crap any more, or no real effect?

It looks great Laurie.. seems as though it needed a touch more white to match. I can't tell, does the base have the same kind of sparkly texture as the treadle? I wish there were swatches available for Boss colors.

I think if a pedal is in desparate need of a paint job, you just know it. On the other hand, medium dings, chips, & scratches are a clear indication of how the pedal was treated. I'm torn between a paint job & as is.

It looks great! It'll be damn near impossible to find a paint with the exact size of shimmer-particle in it. I bet if you could replicate the lettering, and redid the entire pedal, almost no one would be able to tell at all. I'd like to see what you can do to a matte finish pedal as well..

I think that anyone buying a used condition DD-2 would only mind the respray as much as they'd mind a 6-7/10 original finish. A collector of mint pedals, however, may feel otherwise! It might not make the cut for someone like that even for the treadle condition..

Sure looks great Laurie!

I have been thinking about respraying too, i have a BF-2 that's pretty beaten up. I think the purple color might be easier to match.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Again, I didn't take a pic of the "before"... the paint was "ripped off" down the entire of one side. Scraped back to the bare metal - looked like it had been attacked with a pick-axe. From a cosmetic viewpoint, I think the respray is 100% better than the scrape, but either way (pick-axed or resprayed) I guess it was never going to be a collectible.

The good news is that it was bought dead then repaired, so I have a decent looking DD-2 for cheap

D6 short, burned out 9V connector, missing knobs, shorted wires. Looked like it had been dead for a long time and more than one hacker had had a go at it over the years.

It really makes you wonder what the hell people do to them.

It looks great, by the way.

I keep deleting my replies by accident.

Anyway, what I said was, I think most people want them as original as possible, so yes I reckon it does depreciate them a bit. Having said that, I would never sell a DD 2 anyway.

On the phone today to Roland UK spares (my bought dead one's problem is a futzed 4 position switch), I found out you can buy fully finished DD3 cases and treadles. You can also get the PSA caution stickers. They were only 6p each, so I got a few.

Paint-wise, I've gone for Mitsubishi pearl white. From what I've seen it seems about as close as I'm going to get.
