| I just got a really nice CE-3 Chorus for $30 and by trading in my old DR-550 Mk II drum machine (I found I wasn't using it much these days now that I have the drum loops in my RC-2). It's one of the Japanese models with the three black-and-orange knobs, a 1985 according to the serial number. Anyway, I was looking for other CE-3 users and curious about the stereo outs--how many of you have you the stereo outs live? Which setting do you prefer? How does the CE-3 stack up against other Bos choruses? I have to say that so far I like it quite a bit...it has more presence than my old CE-2 which I sold a few years ago (that one was a bit too thin sounding for me), and I briefly owned a Super Chorus which sounded nice but was a little too swirly for me, if that makes any sense. The only other chorus I own is the Behringer Ultra Chorus, which is got from a store in Chicago which was having a close-out on their Behringer pedals. I use that one for practice at home, and it sound full and warm, but I'd be hesitant to use it live because of that plastic case! I'm looking forward to trying out the CE-3 in my live set-up with two amps... |

Nice purchase!
I haven't used my CE-3 live but I like both modes too much to choose one over the other! Stereo sounds great but hard for me to carry around two amps to get that sounds.

The Ce-3 is a fantasitc pedal and really comes alive in stereo. just like the Ce-1 before it. In my opinion that is what the ce-2 always lacked (but still a great pedal too).
i've never used it live in stereo mode. but you really get that space expansive chorus when used in stereo on setting no1 |

| Ce-3 is a great pedal, overshadowed by the CE-2. CE-3 is a bargain because of this |

I think I nearly prefer my CE-3 (ducks for cover!) and I love the different types of modes for it (not just stereo/mono).
It's also kind of cool to run one of the modes for stereo with just a mono setup. Sounds kind of tremelo-ish. |

| ^^^ i agree with stratman. i managed to overlook the physical beauty of the baby blue CE-2s chassis and striking double big knob physique. i think i prefer the CE-3. plus it has stereo! |

Thanks for all the feedback...I've been trying all the different settings for the CE-3...using Mode II in mono sounded really cool, and I think my favorite setting is Mode I through the B (reverse polarity) output...really warm and full sounding in mono. I also get a laugh looking at those black and orange textured knobs...am I right that the CE-3 is the only pedal BOSS used them for?! |

| Not sure about being the only pedal that used this type of knob but the later (possibly MIJ but certainly MIT) versions had white top knobs. |

yesterday i did the CE-2 CE-3 test. heres my results :)
first off, they are both kick ass chorus pedals
i found the CE-2 to be extremely lush and thick. it even seemed to give a slight volume boost. i found it sounded best with slow chordwork. real dreamy
the CE-3 seemed to differ only a little bit. there was SLIGHTLY less low end and it didnt seem to be quite as thick but thats probably just because theres a little less low end. it sounded a little more "on top" of your signal than "mixed in" but sometimes this is desired. i found the sound best for picking and anything rather fast.
i think the main difference that i found was this. the Ce-2 is a thick "choruss-y" sounding chorus. the CE-3 sounded like a regular chorus until you hit about the halfway point, then it starts to sound more like a "vibrato-ish" effect.
again, both super awesome choruss. the CE-3 is stereo so thats a plus, but i REALLY dont like the knob layout with the middle knob covering my view of the LED. other than that, i personally prefer the CE-3 for my style. |

Hi Stratosphere & guys
Great work Stratosphere.
The CE-2 has a small Mid boost as well. Try your CE-2's on really Slow & about 60% to 80% depth.
Regards Dr. Bob

i have a MIT BF-2 that i picked up in a pawn shop in london but it has 2 of those big chunky black knobs on it and two blue (like the DD-3 knobs) i know the blue ones were transfered on but the blacks ones must be original. i thought the black knobs were only on MIJ tho? any ideas? |

I'm not completely sure when the change happened but it must have been close to the time when production moved to Taiwan. Serial numbers was also reset around this time. It appeared to be between September 1989 and June 1990 if the serial numbers I got are correct.
Serial MI? Label Knobs --------------------------------------- RA60638 Sep-89 Japan Green Black ZB56194 Jun-90 ? Green black/white ZB99309 Oct-90 Taiwan Green black/white
What's the serial number of your BF-2? |

Hi bossarea, first thanks for the wonderful source of information and divertisment that you've created here. Secondly, me too, I've got a BF-2, green label, MiJ, black knobs, Serial Number is RA60228 This might not really help you, but confirms September 89.

Me again, Bossarea, on the other hand, there's a CE-3 sitting in front of me, which is green label, MiT, black/white 'modern' knobs and its serial number is 899192 pointing at April 88. Strange? |

Hi, guys. Noob here.
I have a MIJ CE-3 that I'm thinking about modding, but most mods are written for the CE-2. Does anyone have a CE-3 schematic I can use to compare the two? |
