Electromatic - that sounds like an early 70s washing machine
I've never played one but they seem very nice for rockabilly, country, jazz, semi-acoustic tunes, etc. |

I (unfortunatly) don't have one, but I like them very much. (Especially the orange one). I've tried one & they sound (& look) great. |

I've seen a rock/metal band play with these guitars. They're quite versatile. |

I've played a few of these.. they're really well made and have a great sound.. not to mention fun to play. The Korean mfr. is a great and inexpensive alternative to the overpriced Japanese models (although I love those too, esp. the 57 DuoJet).
You can sometimes find the older ones which featured real DeArmond pickups as well.. they were ~$1200 new but I've seen a couple around for the price of a new Electromatic. |

I had a white one for some years, it was very well constructed and looked very nice. It had DeArmaond pickups, sounding great, Bigsby that worked OK. I traded it for a MIJ tele, I didnt like the short sustain of the Gretsch, not my style. |

Thanks a lot for the mini review guys! The best price I can get one here in Aus is around $1300. I still have some saving to do haha! |

Can't really help only to say i have a 60's Fender Coronado with original DeArmonds in it and i would agree with Goran on the short sustain stuff...but then that part of the sound along with flat wound strings and a slapback echo/verb for the authentic rockabilly twang.... that said i would love a Duo-jet with a bigsby myself...... |

I think the short sustain is a result of the hollow body more than anything else, and as Franzoni points out this is an advantage in many styles. The Bigsby also have a part on low sustain (but Neil Young has plenty of sustain with them), but Ive tried DeArmonds on a solid China Gretsch and they sounded good enough for me.

| You just have to know how to work the hollow body, that's all...that goes for Gretsches, Gibsons, any hollowbody. I have 4 hollow Gretsches currently and one more on the way. There's a fine line between not having sustain and actually having usable feedback. With my setup I can play a note(or even a whole chord) and depending on where I'm standing in relation to the amp I can coax some nice feedback out of the guitar...and with a slight wiggle of the Bigsby it'll go on and on... |

I know that and it sure can sound very nice (or awsome), but can work against you sometimes. I like that feedback a lot! When I wrote about sustain I meant without feedback, just a pure clean tone. |

I agree...it'll work against you if you're not careful. But that's what soundcheck is for! And yes, if you're going for a pure pristine clean tone, don't look for sustain out of a hollowbody unless you want a little help(such as a compression pedal), but even then it's still a crap shoot. |
