OK, so I've replaced the stock Sovtek 7025/12AX7WA with a Tung Sol 12AX7/ECC803S gold pin re-issue and I must say, it made a night and day difference
This is where I ordered it: http://thetubestore.com/tungsol12ax7g.html
I HIGHLY recommend all Blackstar HT-DUAL/DISTX users to try this!!!
I want to pop these into my Marshall MF350 now |

Well I don't have the HT Dual but the HT Drive and I have had it a few months now and used it in some rehearsal and gig situations and I have to say it is working very well for me. It is certainly giving me a valve sound and response that I just couldn't get from a whole bunch of other non valve OD pedals I had tried. Another great thing is that because it is on my board and I can put delay, chorus etc after it I don't have to worry about loops on the amp which I do when I am channel switching. I am very used to valve amps (mainly Marshall but also Orange and Peavey) and the way they sound and respond to playing dynamics and guitar volume changes and this thing is just the same or as close as to be immaterial. Also it doesn't screw with my guitar's tone at all, is handy for demoing with the DI out and on a final point it cost less than some boutique overdrive that I couldn't try out in a local store. So in short I guess I am a big fan of this pedal.

That basically sums up how i feel about the SD twintube..another good side is if in a rehearsal situation and you have to use a solid state amp... a valve overdrive pedal/preamp can bring a bit of warmth to the sound.... |

Hey jcdenton6, THANKS A LOT!! I did what you said, I orded a gold tungsol 12ax7, I put her in my htdual today, which was quite easy. And WOW. Biiig difference. Since I got this pedal 2nd hand, I wasn't sure how old the tube was. It was sounding a bit dull before hand, but now...its incredible. Lots of warmth, and some awesome clear crunch on the higain channel. I just had that pedal plugged into my tube amp and I played non stop for almost 2 hours. I couldn't help my self. So I too HIGHLY advise everyone to do this. I like what you said in the sd forum "For those about to void their warranty, we salute you!" Im also considering getting some for my amp now. Cheers! |

Glad to be of help and glad that the Tung Sol worked out for you
I put 2 in my Marshall head and it made a difference too, they really outdid themselves with those re-issues, Even better than their NOS tubes!
Take care and happy playing |
