i sort of go the other way on this....i didn't think the neo classical bit in the guitar duel with vai had any relevence to the original idea of the film,it was supposed to be about finding a lost robert johnson song but unknown to the ' kid' they were out to reclaim the old guys soul from the devil, the whole film was based on the blues with the kid learning about the spirit of the blues and life on the way.... so i thought that the end he should of won by outplaying vai with the blues, maybe they were trying to get the rock audience with casting vai in the part of jack butler...... don't get me wrong it is an excellent piece of guitar playing but personally i thought they 'lost the plot' and cashed in at the end......

Fair point. The last 10 minutes is probably better when seen isolated from the rest of the movie. That way the Paganini-bit doesn't seem so out of place.

+1 Dancer in the Dark
Ravenous
Das Boot (longest version, in Deutsch)
Star Wars (IV-VI)
Kubrick
David Lynch
+1 Monty Python

I also enjoy foreign and old films.. Bunuel & Salvador Dali's "Un Chien Andalou" is pretty mind-bending, even today.

Definitely, Maybe
The Party (Peter Sellers)
Jersey Girl
GAS, Food, Lodging (not that I've seen it but it's nice to hear there's a film about our "little problem")

I'd like to add "Cool hand Luke" to my list, that's a classic.

Guns N Roses even used a sample from the warden in their 1991 classic "Civil War".

"What we've got here is...a failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.
So, you get what we had here last week, which is
the way he wants it.
Well, he gets it!
'n I don't like it any more than you do"

Finally seeing that line being spoken in the movie was kind of surreal.
