any whammy pedal that is overdone sounds silly. it takes a tremendous skill to tastefully use one of these units. operative word that comes to mind "sparingly".
Oh yeah - PLEASE DON'T set this for two octaves up, and leave the pedal matted to play 2 octaves higher than normal.
Lots of Gab about flangers - I think they work best using a slow swirl underneath, like a slow phaser or slow wah. This is kinda hard to do with a wah pedal (say a 4 or 5 second long sweep). Phasers, flangers, choruses all sound like crap to my ears with the "rate" too high. Sound really bad with both rate and depth maxed. uggg |

Honestly I never got into phasing...I like flange but something about phase just doesn't do it for me...Maybe its the thought of 80's hair metal... |

Chorus is ok live but I would have to say Chorus in recordings i dislike, and especially a single acoustic guitar using one i see no real point at all when all you need to do is double track. Just makes for a much sweeter organic effect, that and going line-in and then using reverb to make it sound lively. Whats wrong with a good old-fashioned mic and a suitable room? |

Ring Modulation for me - it just sounds wrong with guitar.
I have a Moogerfooger Ring Mod pedal - it's great for doing Dalek impressions and processing drums but sounds horrible with guitar. |

I'm with 98% of this group. I'm not into any of the modulation effects like Chorus, Flangers, or Phasers. While I can think of several great examples of these effects, I just have no use for them anymore. Back in the 80's -- absolutely couldn't live without these effects! But I play more blues these days and those effects have no place on my board for what I'm into now.
Effects I can't live without now: Overdrive, Wah, Uni-vibe (very useful when doing that Hendrix thing). |
