| I purchased a DC-2 from England on Ebay not realizing that it had been modded. 2 pots have been added to the lower left side of the box. They are a little big for the cavity and the bottom doesn't fit snugly anymore. Also some of the IC's have been mashed down toward the circuit board in order to get the bottom to screw on. The pots do change the rate and depth slightly but the sound quality suffers. When both are in the 12 o'clock position the pedal sounds original. I have read that the unmodded version had two little setscrews that one could manually change the settings (there are no adjustment knobs on the DC2, just 4 presets) My main concern is that I don't want to use the pedal on the floor as a stomp box because of the pressure the pots put on the circuit board. I would like to restore it to original specs or use some kind of minipots to make everything fit. Any advise is appreciated! |

Hey Nacho Mama and welcome to the forum-
I think I saw that one myself some 6 months back on the bay (can't be that many DC-2s in the world with dials sticking out of the side lol)
The setscrews you mention I think are the trimpots on the board which are usually sealed with glue from the factory and are best left well alone- if they still have the glue on the top should be OK otherwise may need manually adjusting- worry about that later though....
First things first as Laurie says we'll need to see some pics of the inside of it- particularly where the extra pots are wired into on the board to see if we can reverse the changes :) |

Many thanks for the quick response! Next time I'll include the pics first off. This is my "rookie" post. The trimpots appear to have been removed and 3 wires from the pots are soldered directly into the circuit board. Well, you see as soon as I get the pics attached. I can't wait for your input and I appreciate sharing your knowledge.

Hi Nacho Mama First of all welcome to the forum from Australia.
Congratulations on finding a DM-2 DC-2. Thank you for your (PM) Private Mail. I noticed it was the same as you have posted above. And Laurie & chrissydamage have already responded.
I'm sure we can help you get your DM-2 "Almost back to normal, except of course for the holes drilled in the sides of the case. But you should be able to plug those anyway.
Can I ask what soldering & electronics skills you have? And do you have the prerequisite fine tipped soldering equipment, or at least a friend with the gear & skills? it will give us a better idea of how to help you out.
As the guys said, some pictures would be good; Internal as well. Is the evilbay link still active showing some pics?
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hi everyone! I am having trouble getting the pictures attached to this post. Please bare with me I am computer challenged. I spent too much time woodshedding on my instrument and skipped computer class... I am going to ask my 13 year old to help
Image display code added by Moderator.
Nacho Mamma - most of the files you uploaded were partially corrupted, you must have experienced the servers dreaded timeout, due to the large files you tried to upload. You will have to resize your pics before uploading them, please try to keep them around 300K. I managed to salvage one of your pictures, It's been cropped, resized & renamed with an (s) suffix. Please try uploading again, if you have trouble we are only too happy to help you out. The forum will only display JPG & GIF files. I also deleted the (dot)ZIP file you uploaded, as it was also damaged because of the server timeout. Regards Dr. Bob - Moderator
PS - If you click on the edit icon for this post, you will see the HTML code snippet that I add to to display pics.

Yeah thats the one..... is that a blue LED in there as well?
I recall the seller of that had a 'birds eye view' photo and you couldn't see the backplate bending like it is-
I certainly wouldn't worry about technical knowledge or lack of at the moment, because the guy who managed that obviously didn't have any-
Those pots/dials need to come out immediately as its clearly causing damage to the board/backplate- I see what you mean about not wanting to step on it- your gonna have to take this one off the road for a short while-
We need to see the inside- I'm *hoping* its just going to be a case of the 2 trimpots have been removed and replaced with potentiometers and the maybe the led swapped-
If this is all thats wrong then you should be laughing- this should be real easy to fix
I'm bracing myself though, who knows what we're gonna find on the inside of this one...... fingers crossed!! |
