What´s your opinion in this:
The lead mode at SD-2 is in my opinion something else. A good highgain overdrive with a really good sound. But, is there anoter BOSS-pedal that have quite the same sound or is the SD-2 unique?

The ds-2 in turbo mode comes close in my opinion.

nothing is a perfect match, just as none of the boss pedals are really a perfect match for each other. the hard part is that the SD-2's lead mode has the gain potential of a dirt box but the tonal color of an overdrive.

only 2 get really close imo.

a close one is the OD-2 on turbo mode (i can't speak for an OD-2R since it's been like 12 years since i played one). the main difference between the SD-2 and OD-2 are that the SD-2 has a bit more fizz on the high end as well as a boost in the upper mids (whereas the OD-2 has a boost in the low mids and a rather flat upper mid). the OD-2 has a bit more organic drive sound, but overall their gain potential is pretty similar (with the SD-2 having a touch more headroom).

another close one is the OS-2. similar gain. with the color knob set to like 10:30-11:00, it gets close. its mid boost is similar in tone, but the clipping diodes are a bit more bitey.

third vote would be a modded SD-1 (with more aggressive clipping diodes), but this is a ways off.

fourth vote would be an MIJ DS-1, possibly with a mod or two.

everything else is fairly distant.

I agree with zentropa's comments (g'day zen!)

There is something "different" about the SD-2.

Take a look at:

Thanks all!

Well, that´s what I thought too. I do have one and I like it a lot. I also have the OD-2 & OD-2r and the difference is as described in the answears. The SD-2 is something else. I would be happy if BOSS ever made a overdrive that sounds like it but with the simple knobs level and drive. Awesome! I do think that the OD-2r has that little more shimmering upper mid boost against the old OD-2. Think I have to go home and play it for a while and do some tests...

The SD-2 is like no one other. It make a warm fat lead overdrive sound, and you can put som more bas to it with GE-6 or PQ-4 and it´s perfect. faltarn
