Actually... that looks like crap casting to me. I've seen a couple of old Boss pedals with those sort of marks. It's not common... probably happens near the end of life for the casting moulds.

Hi Guys I think thats normal for an early Japan pedal. I have a SS CS1 and a ss touch wah that look the same. I read that the early pedals were actually hand painted. |

Yup all my silver screw pedals have the same paint lines. Definitely not a repaint.
Funny how he shows a picture with a box but says "The manual, battery, AC adapter and the box are not included." |

Makes you wonder if the pedal he's selling is really the one pictured? |

He was selling a bf-2, "serial 9900" but on one of the pictures was a bf-2 with a paper label, 5 digit serial.

Damn, and that's another 5-digit ink serial. That must be about the earliest of the T-wahs. Certainly among the last with SS.. would be very nice in my collection.. too bad I don't feel like importing a pedal from japan.
As for the paint, I agree completely that early pedals have that appearance sometimes. My Touch-wahs all have that brushstroke-look at some points. |

| Is it paint, or is it imperfections in the actual aluminium casting? |

Hi Guys
My SS CE-2 looks like that, the base casting has imperfections.
I guess they increased the quality of the pre-finish on the castings, as time went on, & people looked for better quality.
Just my 2 cents worth. Regards Dr. Bob |

my really old pedals look like that as well.... it's just the way they were me thinks
repainting pedals and then relabelling them perfectly would be more expensive than even the pricey ones are worth. |

| I think its pretty neat that old pedals were painted by hand. |

I agree with the aluminum casting side. I examined all my SS pedals and found the same look somewhere on all of them. On one of the #7400 TW-1, there is a 1cm square area of paint missing near the ACA jack, and the streaky look of the aluminum is visible. That side isn't in this pic, but you can clearly see some kind of ripple on all the pedals.
Sorry for the huge pic, but it's hard to make out the details otherwise.

It would be interesting to compare streaks between pedals of a similar age to determine if they were made in the same mold.. I bet the molds for the streaky casting were discarded - hence the change in width between the oldest MIJ pedals (which get rubbed badly by a BCB) and newer stuff. |
